Why not just build a fishing pier?

A pier could be built off the old dock where mcrescue has a boat house. My dad is 95 and we would fish there.

Why not move the boaters out?
Who actually paid for the docks?
Do you have any Idea how much it cost to replace the seals in the foot on a boat that has wound monofilament liine inside and cut the seals and possibly ruined the housing in the process if it .
It would be nice if the city would construct a strictly fishing pier , it would see lots of use I,m quite sure , there are many handicapped individuals that would love to fish but can,t access the water edge from a wheel chair or other reasons. but it needs to be separate from the boat launch for safety reasons for the boaters and fishermen involved - just makes sense
Our river is a great recreation resource for boating and fishing. But we are long long overdue a good public fishing pier - it could be an asset to our area as well if done right , lots of towns are capitalizing on their waterfronts. Build a really nice one and man it with a retired soul and charge a small fee such as 1.00 or 1.50 for use to maintain it and light it for night fishing and be sure its labeled use at your own risk clearly to limit city liabilities - maybe even put a bait and tackle nearby - - just a thought
But do keep it separate from the boat launching areas
There is a Handicap fishing pier on Wheeler Refuge across from HQ on 67.
I have caught many fish at Rhodes ferry park and Pt. Mallard.
The boat owners at the Harbor have to pay big bucks to rent a slip and the harbor is managed by an independent company.
Theft is a big problem along the river. Especially at the harbor. Did you know people steal the concrete squares?
Amen on the monofilament!. They will cause $100's in motor repair I walk the point Mallard trail and pickup a lot of discarded lines.
Don Kyle and I participated in the river clean up Saturday. We collected two bags of trash at the Y and several balls of monofilament. It is a disgrace how much trash is left by fisherman.
the little pier at hwy 67 is always full too , over crowded actually , they need a large pier out of the main channel on the river itself not flint back waters and a decent size , it would be used , sorta like build it and they will come , but it is annoying trying to launch with fishermen on the dock and their lines in water to navigate around it does not mix at all , and I too love to fish but in the proper place and proper time , not in someones way
