Great! Another heavy industry to pollute our air and river. Only 28 jobs? I would insist on 100% Decatur employees or no tax abatement.
Decatur is steadily giving away the farm to big buisiness and not helping the small buisnesses in decatur at all.
I agree 100000% with Michael above. Why can't Decatur get any jobs that don't pollute our river and air? Why does this city give a tax abatement to these type of businesses, but there are several small locally owned business (like Dirt Road BBQ that I read about a few days ago) that employ just as many people, where is their tax abatement?
I've had several people come visit me from out of town, crossing the river on 31 from Madison. Their first impression of this city is that it smells like cat food and is nothing but industries pumping smoke into the air. If that is the impression Decatur gives this city will never grow.
I always thought things like industry and jobs were good things to have around......
what smoke. i think most of what they see is steam..... and i agree with billy g.
What are they giving away? If they don't come they pay no taxes. If they come they pay educational taxes that support our schools. As for pollution, I suggest you contact the industries along the river and ask for a tour to see just how clean they are. Or contact the EPA and talk to them. These aren't your grandfather's Pittsburgh steel mills.
