Sounds as if that office needs a major reconstructing.
Is this not the same developer that had the city to jump through hurdles and front money for another site that will never be developed? Did we not learn from the first time? Please correct me if I'm wrong.
Kay, you are thinking about the Sweetwater Development...different group. Also, they did not make they city jump through any hurdles, it was the other way around. Now a huge development that could bring in much needed jobs and tax revenue is still in a holding pattern because the city council at the time refused to grow, despite Mayor Kyle's efforts.

If this is built, traffic on 6th ave will become worse than it already is. Sommerville Rd needs to be 4 laned to relieve some of the conjestion that will occur on 6th.
Why do you people hate progress so much????
That would be a good spot for a check cashing place.
Yes Robert, just what we need, another check cashing place. Just like we need another title pawn shop and Mexican restaurant! I assume your comment was sarcasm, as is mine.
I would LOVE the Wal-mart Neighborhood market to go there. It would be very convenient for folks on that side of town. Growth and process isn't all bad. It will generate jobs and revenue for the city. What is wrong with you complaining folks! Reminds me of the town of Lynn, AL. those poor folks have to drive 30-45 minutes to a grocery store. The town council wouldn't let a Dollar General locate in town. Instead the town of Nauvoo got the Dollar General. Those folks are very happy that they can go buy milk and bread without driving long distance to get supplies.
I wonder if it will have more than 2 registers open at a time. Our Wal-Mart is terrible, why bring in a Wal-Mart supermarket!
I wonder how many more businesses will close on 6th Ave. as a result of "progress"?
Decatur does not need this... We have plenty of Grocery Stores for this town.
Somerville Lane does NOT need four laned.
.
As for other businesses on 6th avenue, if they close it's because of their non competitive business model in a changing economic marketplace. They choose their own fate.
.
As for Decatur grocery stores, besides Publix, all the rest SUCK in Decatur. People need to live somewhere else for part of their life to realize how far behind we are on some things in town. The grocery stores in even small towns outside Atlanta are 10 times better than ours. Because larger city stores such as Atlanta "set the standard".
.
Out standards here are so low.... that the stores like Family World and Kroger just do what they can do to get by and don't try to do anything better.
Wishing it was a Publix or even a Trader Joe's. There is nothing upscale about Walmart. A Walmart Neighborhood Market store is just lipstick on a pig.
i miss trader joe's! i doubt a store like that would ever fly in a place like this....it's too healty and new age-y :-(
Surely you jest about a Trader Joe's. Decatur's per capita income has a long way to go warrant a store like that. I would love to see a Publix on the East side of town, but the same rule applies; hopefully somebody will continue to "raise the bar".
Another WalMart for the Mexicans!
I wish Decatur could get some real upscale markets, as we love to go to the Fresh Market in Huntsville, but the income level in Decatur will not support it. I read a Huntsville Chamber of Commerce report that was done by a marketing agency in which they reported what type of businesses could be supported in Huntsville. Trader Joe's was borderline even for Huntsville.
