A pet for the holiday?

Decatur Animal Services hopes to find dozens of abandoned and stray cats and dogs a home for the holidays and will reduce their adoption fees this weekend.

The shelter’s annual Home for the Holidays event is Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Residents can tour the facility at 300A Beltline Road S.W. beside Wilson Morgan Park. All adoptions will be $25 off, Director Carol Wicks said.

The discount will be in addition to reduced fees on certain animals who have been at the shelter for several months, said shelter volunteer Susie Burgess. Full-priced adoptions are $110 for dogs and $95 for cats.

“Those interested in offering a temporary home for animals during the holidays must fill out an application and approved by shelter staff,” Burgess said.

For more information about the event or fostering animals, call Decatur Animal Services at 256-341-4790 or visit its website at www.decaturalabamausa.com/departments/animalservices/index.html
