Austin clinched the Class 6A, Area 16 regular-season title with a 44-31 win at James Clemens on Friday night. Austin turned up the defense and only allowed seven second-half points.

Malique Elliott had 14 points and Troy Harris and Josh Pearson each added nine for the Black Bears (14-6, 4-2).

Elliott and Harris each grabbed 10 rebounds and Pearson pulled down nine.

Everette Mayes scored seven points while dishing out seven assists.

Austin travels to Tanner on Tuesday night.

East Lawrence 66, R.A. Hubbard 46: Carrington Coffey was the big man on the court for the Eagles with a dozen points, 12 rebounds and four assists. Terence Deloney was the high scorer for East Lawrence with 15 points. Malik Carter added 10.

East Lawrence led 37-27 at the half.

Dontae Carter poured in 12 points for the Chiefs.

Athens 63, Grissom 61: Nathaniel Potts led Athens with 22 points and 11 rebounds. Neil Malone had seven points and eight assists.

The Golden Eagles have won nine straight games and 11 of 12.

They will host Muscle Shoals on Monday to make up for a postponed December game.

Austin 40, James Clemens 32: Takiesha Jordan scored 18 points as the Black Bears clinched the Area 16 regular-season crown, going 6-0 in area play.

Katie Speegle added nine for Austin, which led 15-11 at the half.

James Clemens got 13 from China Leary.

Austin (18-6) travels to Tanner on Tuesday night.
