I know the food that's served are what is available. I'm not blaming the people who work in the lunch rooms.

Before raising prices on lunches, each board member should at least go to each school, unannounced on several different occasions and eat lunch...

Everything is a fast food type foods, quick and ease, Fatty processed foods.

9/10s of the food is thrown away, mostly the pizza is ate, its kinda like cardboard..

I can say if school lunch rooms were a resturant, they would go out of business, because there wouldn't be any return business.

I think instead of raising prices they should be reduced, they aren't worth $1. much less over $2.

Lunches in Limestone County schools cost $2.35 last year. $2.00 and $2.05 sounds like a bargain.

For goodness sake, let them raise the price if it means better meals. As long as families can choose to send a packed lunch, this shouldn't bother anyone who is paying. Just make a couple of day's worth of salads and sandwiches at a time at home and refrigerate them. Stick them in a lunch cooler for elementary children. High school children often barely have time to eat so you waste your money paying for school lunches. Pack their sandwich and fruit and drink in a brown paper bag and at least they can have that much food during the school day.

Holmes needs to leave his thoughts at his chicken house door and let those with an education make the tough decisions. All he's looking for as a board member is to supplement his farm income anyway.

Rose, you have no idea what you are talking about !! The state has cut out certain things that schools have to go by..but cut down on processed foods..pizza I assure does NOT taste like cardboard, its one of the kids favorite..and no where else can you get a meal and drink for 2.00.and food is not wasted or thrown away, it is prepared close enough to where it is not much waste. Even though we have guidelines to go by, we try to make good wholesome meals, it is called taking pride in your job..I would not serve something that I wouldn't eat myself..and for the less fortunate, there are free and reduced forms and it is no shame to apply and its discreet, no one but the cashier knows if a child is free or reduced..so I suggest you go and eat at a school before you criticize the food..

Margaret.. I do know what I"m talking about...Thank you .... I bring a sandwich and eat with my kids.... I say when chicken is served, pull out that pan of good breast out from under the counter (which is only served to teachers and adults)., serve that to the kids instead of legs and wings..How about a little vegetable soup.... I have been going to the school for the last 6 yrs weekly... I have not seen nothing but quick made fast food food...

All anyone has to do to see, I'm right.. go to school, Get you a big ole piece of pizza.. Cardboard...its what the kids eat, very unhealthy.

We wonder why kids are so out of shape...

Do you want to require students to eat a healthy meal or face some form of fine on their parents or guardians?

$2.05 for students and $2.55 for employees and guests is pretty cheap. You cannot go out to any fast food place, much less a restaurant and eat for that price. And if you are so bent out of shape over what they serve, brown bag it. Nobody is making you buy lunches there. Buy it or pack it . . . it's your choce.
