All I can say is, WOW. Best way to get rid of someone from a non performing school.....promote them.
Brookhaven achieved great things under him! A well deserved promotion!!! Congratulations. Seriously typical of the tenure law.
Larry deserves that promotion.
Only in the teachers union..............................
.
Promoting bad behaviour has become very common, and no he did not do a good job at brookhaven. My tax money being mishandled again. Nichols, I mistakenly supported you when others said you were just a politician and not in it for the kids. You just proved their point.
Here come the "haters"
So, "Aretha", if they don't agree with you, then they are "haters"??? A typical "tolerant-as-long-as-you-see-it-my-way" mindset.
I would laugh if this wasn't so sad. This is a prime example of what's wrong with public education.
For all of you that are not teachers let me clarify, there is no teachers union in Alabama. We have the choice to belong, and obviously if you keep up with what is going on in Montgomery our State Senate and Riley have hurt education so far not helped. So how about a little support for our public schools. I wish Dr. Collier the best of luck.
I AM a teacher, and I was bullied into joining the AEA. When I dropped it, I was pink slipped the following spring. Yes, I did teach at Brookhaven so I know first hand the work of Dr. Collier. When I began working at another school system, I was, again, bullied into joining AEA. Is it a union? YES IT IS! Riley and our State Senate have not "hurt" education any more than the stupid democrats that were in there for 139 years. Am I a republican? NO, I am an independent. I vote for who does the best job, not the party. AEA votes for the party.
yes there is a Teachers Union in Alabama. and yes membership is not required (officially). but 98% of teachers are members because if you need a lawyer to go against the school or defend yourself, the AEA will provide it.
But it's very much a Union. and Union leaders are making big money off it.
(note this is not the same "M" posting as above. I just can't change my user name for some reason)
M your post of bad grammar proves why yous wase fired......
Bubba is for teachers AEA members are wonderful....
Hell, let's talk about why Collier is making 97k a year....but they send home a list as long as my leg of school supplies....I see they are investing our money in the wrong places.............FIRE COLLIER AND NICHOLS PLEASE!!!!!!
Fail at your job and get promoted, is this the lesson the school system and Ed Nichols is teaching kids in Decatur?
Ed did not respond very well to his first adverse publicity.
If it walks like a duck, talks like a duck then it must be a duck. YES AEA is a union. We have no more Saginaw due to union and the list goes on.
This is how it works in Decatur. There is a good old boys network. If you have the right last name or the right connections you can get a job or promotion in Decatur City Schools. Look carefully at the hires and check out last names. People who put in time, effort, and pay their dues cannot get a job. It does not matter if the most qualified applicant is chosen. Choosing the best person for a job is a joke. Mr. Collier is making $97,000 a year. This is enough to pay two teacher salaries. Smaller class size could definitely help improve test scores and the educational value of many children. However, we have added numerous high pay positions to Central Office. Do the people making $90,000+ in Central Office work as hard as two classroom teachers? I am willing to say "NO!" As tax payers and stake holders in the education of our youth, stop by Central Office and see how much work is actually being done. Then stop by a school and watch the teachers as they work with the children. Then make your decision who is truly earning their pay. I would also like to know how many principals and Central Office employees are using their own money to help out in the classroom. Teachers use a tremendous amount of their own money. So take your inflated salaries and egos and put your money where your mouth is......
As far as AEA, many teachers belong strictly for liability reasons. People today are extremely sue happy. By being a member of AEA, a teacher is provided with legal help. They also receive legal help and advice when a principal is especially vindictive (which happens all the time). Until you have walked a day in a teacher's shoes, don't be so quick to judge. Let's start at the top and examine where our tax dollars are being spent. I believe if we trim the fat from the inflated salaries more money will be available to actually spend on the children.
This guy should be fired I will do it please let me not promoted give me a break!
Any union you can choose to be a part of it or not. it's still a union.
