ATHENS — Representatives of the soon-to-be-established Will Haney Foundation presented a $3,000 donation to 25th annual Hospice of Limestone County Chili Challenge.
Sharon and Tink Haney, parents of Will Haney, and his sister, Heather Haney, made the donation to Chili Challenge Chairwoman Amanda Speegle.
Saturday’s Chili Challenge made about $8,000 on ticket sales at the door. Organizers are still collecting from winners of the silent auction, so they don’t yet have a final total for the event.
Will Haney died in 2011 after a nearly two-year battle with rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare cancer found most often in children.
Bruce Cole of Athens had the winning $1,350 bid on the guitar autographed by the Grammy-nominated Alabama Shakes, who are from Athens.
