Political correctness rules, even in Lauderdale County. It's unfortunate that this teacher shared his personal views with his high school students (some of whom likely vote). I guess it would be easy to let one's guard down after spending so much time with the same students daily. Thinking back to my high school days, teachers could speak their minds and give their opinions on the happenings of the day. Some even used a little profanity on occasion to drive home the point. Only once can I remember the teacher being told to refrain from swearing, but the humanistic (liberal) opinions continued. No cell phones to capture audio/video. Personally, and I don't know the man, I hope heowed to be corrected, reminded of suitabile conversation with students, and allowed to continue teaching/coaching. Heaven knows if he embraced the Obama administration and spoke glowingly of the homosexual lifestyle, no matter how offended aome students might be, we would not be reading about him.

This not about if you agree with what he said or not. There are just some things you don't say to students as a teacher. It is called professionalism. I agree with him that this country is headed in the wrong direction, but there was a much better, and more professional, way for him to have made that point. 1st Amendment rights also come with a responsibility in what you say. Every teacher knows that the are supposed to keep their personal political views to themselves when it comes to instruction. Their rights are not being violated, as they can express those views in other places, but they are not supposed to use their own views to influence the views of their students. They are supposed to teach in a manner that allows the student to form their own opinions.

This man did not teach hate, he expressed an opinion. A reprimand is all that is necessary in this case.

If you want to quote the constitution that's fine. When I hear people complaining about not being able to pray in school and that is the reason everything is so wrong in this country - how about The Ten Commandments. As for the content of his rant - the fact is that when you hold a public service position, conservative or liberal, Baptist or Catholic, you are expected to keep your political and spiritual opinions to yourself. Children are to be left to develop their own views through a combination of study and parental guidance. As a Coach, this guy is revered by his students/players. On this day, they learned that he has no respect for authority, is prejudiced against those who are overweight, is a homophobe and is as cocky as they come. Not only does he spew hatred, but he dares them to complain about it. I'm glad that at least one student called his bluff.

As for what would have happened in the "good 'ole days"...I was a student then. That was back when grown ups understood the importance of supporting the office of the presidency, regardless of who was holding it and when respect for self and others was held in the highest regard.

He's a coach He suffered head injuries while playing football... In reference to Obama saying he would think long before allowing a son to play football with all those head shots. This proves that Obama may be right in saying what he said.
