To The Daily: Just a few lines to express my disappointment at how little the people in this country seem to know about our Constitution. The right to keep and bear arms, our Second Amendment, has nothing to do with hunters or hunting. It was put there to ensure our government may never disarm the citizens, in case we ever need to take the country back from an oppressive regime.
The Constitution has been devalued for decades now. It's in shreds. Now we're told that hunters don't need assault weapons, and that's true. We keep our weapons so, in case the government tries to control us too much, we can fight back. That's the real premise of this question. This new push to disarm the population is scary to me, having seen Castro disarm the citizens of Cuba soon after taking power.
Don't be fooled. Many of the commentators on TV hit the nail on the head, talking about the epidemic of prescription drugs being used nowadays. Many of these drugs do not exist in nature, not in these forms. The lists of side effects are alarming, and the reasons they even exist is simply patent rights, and therefore profit.
Millions of Americans own arsenals at home, and haven't killed anyone, nor do they have any desire to do so. My bet is this kid was on some of these drugs, but I realize I'm stepping on big toes saying this.

Oh how I love letters from idiots. Must we really wait thirty days until we hear from Armando again? I don't know if I can go that long without a good laugh. Hopefully, the Tubbs guy or the Nix guy have waited their 30 days and will write another letter soon.
Thank you for your honest and truly inspiring letter. And I have to thank DD for actually putting this one out there. You are right!! I get soo sick of hearing people talk about our democracy...DEMOCRACY .. WE are a REPUBLIC .... That alone should tell us something!!! This is just one example.. We are destroying the integrity of what our forefathers went through to write the Constitution. So PLEASE step away!!! Actually Dance on some toes!!! Go for it!! As for this craziness of this terrible shooting, Oddly enough, there are nearly no incidents where folks are allowed to carry concealed weapons due to the state/local laws. ie: The Colorado Theater shooter passed two theaters with the same Batman premier to go to one that had a sign posted ' No Weapons Allowed'..... coincidence, I do not think so.
The 2nd Amendment is the not the right to shoot at a deer. It is the right to shoot at the government if it is taken over by tyrants.
Learn your history folks.
William,
Mr de Quesada lived through the political take over by a communist dictator and the failing of our government to support and defend a people we swore to assist. Even though the United States government and president Kennedy broke a promise and allowed thousands to die trying to over throw a tyrannical regime, he still loves the United States, his new country.
People as you would run in the face of adversity, during the revolutionary war you would have been deemed a "sunshine patriot." or worse, a traitor.
Great post Mr. de Quesda.
The drugs were probably much more instrumental in the shooting(s) than we will ever know. HIPAA keeps all of us from learning the truth. The rich want us disarmed; that should be obvious to anyone by now. They can hire protection, we cannot.
They are slowly creating a unarmed slave labor workforce and leaving us at the mercy of robbers, looters and killers. They have set up reservations, known currently as housing projects, with fences around them for "protection of the residents".
They also lock people up for minor drug offenses when those people, possibly including the shooter in this horrible case, need true help. You simply cannot have a law or a set of laws which make everything illegal. The people will revolt.
The Republicans have started shutting down all of the mental health facilities and returning those people to society for their families to try and care for, with little or no training or resources. We have a budget to make you know...promises promises promises.
Mr de Quesada is no idiot; he has already seen this sort of thing happen before and knows the warning signs. We need to heed them as well.
Yes he is a true patriot , he is very smart , as was his father -they see all to well what Obama is trying to do to our country
William you are the Idiot , this is a very wise well versed man , might take a little clue from him
He's a nut. His letters are nutty.
william, the words of the wise may seem that way to the...how shall i put this...dumb.
good to read your words, sr. de quasada.
Deport him.
Who cares if he lived through the Cuban Revolution? His experience has nothing to do with assault rifles in America or the safety of prescription medication. Over 90 people were killed in mass shootings this year. I understand your point, but if for whatever reason we did decide to overthrow the U.S. government, no amount of assault rifles would stop the thousands of jet-fighters, armed unmanned drones, nuclear warheads, battleships, bombers, long-range missiles or the 1 million troops brainwashed to defend America from threats foreign and DOMESTIC. Assault rifles do nothing but provide paranoids a false sense of security. Your argument makes no sense. The only thing those weapons will be used for is target practice and the murder of American citizens.
Kenneth,
At least we would die with dignity. You, in your old age, would look back on your life with shame.
Kenneth I would guess that you have never served in the military. I base my guess on your comment regarding "brainwashed" troops. You need to step away from the tv and stop watching so much fiction. I tell you that 99% of the red blooded american solders would not EVER take up a weapon against an american in the US just because a politcal leader ordered them to do so. If you had spent just 1 week as a soldier, you would know what I am saying is absolutely true.
Thank You Gail, Johnny, Laura and other level headed folks for your comments as well.. For those folks who think that they know better than everyone else..Well, I tend to believe with the forefathers, That we the people have enough common sense and the RIGHT to defend ourselves IF need be!...Here's some info to chew on...
10/1/1997 - Luke Woodham put on a trench coat to conceal a hunting rifle and entered Pearl High School in Pearl, Mississippi. He killed 3 students before vice principal Joel Myrick apprehended him with a Colt .45 without firing.
12/7/1993 – Colin Ferguson brought a handgun into a Long Island Rail Road car and opened fire at random. He killed 6 people before passengers Michael O’Connor, Kevin Blum and Mark McEntee tackled him while reloading.
11/15/1995 – Jamie Rouse used a .22-caliber semi-automatic rifle to fire indiscriminately inside Richland High School in Lynnville, Tennessee. He killed 2 people before being tackled by a football player and a coach.
2/2/1996 - Barry Loukaitis entered Frontier Middle School in Moses Lake, Washington with a rifle and two handguns. He killed 3 people before the Gym teacher, Jon Lane grabbed the rifle and wrestled the gunman to the ground.
2/25/2005 – David Hernandez Arroyo Sr. opened fire on a public square from the steps of a courthouse in Tyler, Texas. The shooter was armed with a rifle and wearing body armor. Mark Wilson fired back with a handgun, hitting the shooter but not penetrating the armor. Mark drew the shooter’s fire, and ultimately drove him off, but was fatally wounded. Mark was the only death in this incident.
12/9/2007 – Matthew J. Murray entered the Youth With A Mission training center in Arvada, Colorado and killed 2 people, then went to the New Life Church in Colorado Springs, Colorado killing 2 more. He was shot and injured by church member Jeanne Assam and commit suicide before police arrived.
4/22/2012 – Kiarron Parker opened fire in a church parking lot in Aurora, Colorado. The shooter killed 1 person before being shot and killed by a member of the congregation who was carrying concealed.
With 15 incidents stopped by police with a total of 217 dead that’s an average of about 14.29. With 17 incidents stopped by civilians and 45 dead that’s an average of 2.33.
The first point I want to draw your attention to is that roughly half of shooting rampages end in suicide anyway. What that means is that police are not ever in a position to stop most of them. Only the civilians present at the time of the shooting have any opportunity to stop those shooters. That’s probably more important than the statistic itself. In a shooting rampage, counting on the police to intervene at all is a coin flip at best.
Second, within the civilian category 11 of the 17 shootings were stopped by unarmed civilians. What’s amazing about that is that whether armed or not, when a civilian plays hero it seems to save a lot of lives. The courthouse shooting in Tyler, Texas was the only incident where the heroic civilian was killed. In that incident the hero was armed with a handgun and the villain was armed with a rifle and body armor. If you compare the average of people killed in shootings stopped by armed civilians and unarmed civilians you get 1.8 and 2.6 but that’s not nearly as significant as the difference between a proactive civilian, and a cowering civilian who waits for police.
So, given that far less people die in rampage shootings stopped by a proactive civilian, only civilians have any opportunity to stop rampage shootings in roughly half of incidents, and armed civilians do better on average than unarmed civilians, wouldn’t you want those heroic individuals who risk their lives to save others to have every tool available at their disposal?
It is amazing that william loves reading his own letters. Why wait 30 days before you post another one. Armando de Quesada is to be congratulated for his willingness to speak up and try to make us see what is happening in this country. Those of you who do not want to take heed to his word will be the first ones begging for someone to save your butts. Americans have been spoon fed the idea for so long now that we are untouchable on American soil. Pay attention. That has been proven wrong many times. We are not going to able to depend on our own government to protect us. That has also been proven many times. Now our government is wanting to take away our second ammendment rights. Yes they are sugarcoating it to make it appear that they are doing something for the good of the people but they are only trying to gain more control over the citizens of this country. While they are busy trying to destroy our constitutional rights it is time for Americans to wake up and realize that according to our constitution THEY work for US, not the other way around.
