Danville soars past rival West Morgan in OT

Kyle Evans nailed a 3-pointer as time expired, sending Danville High past rival West Morgan 85-84 Tuesday night in overtime.

Danville (5-3) erased an 11-point halftime deficit to force the extra period.

Patrick Doherty paced Danville with 26 points, while Justin
Morgan tossed in 19 and Justin Tomlinson scored 11. Slater Robinson added nine points for the Hawks.

Brandon Roberts led West Morgan (6-1) with 28 points, while Dustin Morgan scored 14. Peyton Mullican and Caleb Hazen each scored 10 points for the Rebels.

Sparkman 68, Austin 66:
Lamont Turner poured in 19 points as the Senators held off Austin in the Black Bears’ season opener.

Everette Mayes paced Austin (0-1) with 15 points and seven assists, while Malique Elliott tossed in 14 points. Camron Reedus scored 11 points for the Black Bears, while Josh Pearson scored 10 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.

Austin travels to Bob Jones on Friday.

Athens 65, East Limestone 50:
Nathaniel Potts tossed in 20 points and grabbed 15 rebounds, helping Athens erase a three-point halftime deficit to beat rival East Limestone.

Athens (2-3) used a 21-7 run in the third period to pull away.

Trey Potts added 13 points and grabbed 14 rebounds for Athens, while Jackson Pettus had eight points.

Jordon Gandy led East Limestone (4-4) with 19 points.

Lawrence County 58, East Lawrence 52:
Jesse Childress scored 19 points and Donovan Wheeler added 17, leading Lawrence County past rival East Lawrence.

Jesse Moreno added eight points for the Red Devils.

Malik Garth led East Lawrence with 19 points, while Cameron Garner scored 14. Terrence Deloney added 10 points for the Eagles.

Priceville 57, Good Hope 39:
The Bulldogs built a 17-point first-half lead and then cruised to the win.

Jacob Crow had 11 points to lead Priceville (4-3), and Malik Orr and Hayden Prentice contributed 10 each.

Andrew Cofer led Good Hope with 14 points.

Girls basketball

Sparkman 63, Austin 44:
Alexis Jennings scored 28 points to lead Sparkman past Austin.

Sparkman carried a three-point lead into halftime, but used a 17-7 run in the fourth quarter to pull away.

Takisha Jordan led Austin (3-2) with 14 points, while Katie Speegle scored 10. Tyra Johnson added nine for the Black Bears.

East Limestone 56, Athens 53:
Rachael Diamond paced East Limestone with 21 points as the Indians beat rival Athens.

Brennan Crabtree added 18 points for East Limestone (8-1), which led 30-17 at halftime.

Alliyah Smith and Destiny Bailey each scored 13 points for Athens (0-5).

Brewer 62, Grissom 25:
Riley Northway recorded a double-double, finishing with 25 points and 12 rebounds to lead Brewer.

Rheagan Harvel finished with nine points, seven assists and seven steals for Brewer (7-0), while Savana Flack added nine points and six rebounds.

Brewer led 36-16 at halftime.

Sarah Tillery led Grissom with seven points.

Danville 60, West Morgan 51:
Gracie George nailed seven 3-pointers for Danville as the Hawks overcame a 5-point halftime deficit to beat rival West Morgan.

George finished with 24 points to lead Danville (7-2), while Tabetha Hutto tossed in 18 with five steals. Jesse Oliver added eight points with four rebounds.

Sydney Sanders led West Morgan with 12 points, while Hannah Amos had 11. Krystyn Chambers and Hallie Cunningham each had 10 points for the Rebels.

Good Hope 51, Priceville 32:
Darcie Wilson scored 15 points and Cara Goodwin added 12 to lead Good Hope past Priceville.

McKenzie Parker led Priceville (2-5) with 11 points, and Jada Beverly added eight.
