This is strange....I am sure there business is self supporting and has patients. Wonder what the rest of the story is.
Hopefully the doctors will start their own practice? Previous stories said that it made more since to invest in the former decatur general campus because it has more room. I certainly hope they plan on upgrading. It's a depressing looking place on the inside.
i hope my dr goes into her own practice, im not comfortable with a male dr
OB-GYN Associates left Decatur several years ago to focus on Huntsville. They were having trouble competeing against the other OB-GYN practices in town. When all this went down with Huntsville Hospital buying out Parkway and taking over operation of Decatur General, they did not want to have any hospital owned OB-GYN physicians on staff that they would have to pay for. This included all of their office staff as well. Over 30 people will be losing their jobs. Huntsville Hospital has said that they will try and find a place for these people "somewhere" within the Huntsville Hospital system. That is legal talk for "we are going to offer you a position as far from Decatur as we can get and at the worst shift we can find" in hopes the employees will not accept the positino and thus not be eligible for unemployment.
OB-GYN Associates will ow have a monopoly on OB-GYN care in Decatur. Can anyone say "collusion" ? I am sure OB-GYN Associates and Huntsville Hospital worked out this arrangement long before all the consolidation of Parkway and Decatur General took place.
And as Paul Harvey used to say "and that is the rest of the story!"
Decatur OB GYN didn't leave to focus on HSV. They left because of issues with the hospital and hospital management.
Welcome to how healthcare will be run from now on. Private hospitals are becoming a thing of the past as more and more are gobbled about by bigger systems. Healthcare experts are saying this is the only way for hospitals to survive under Obamacare once it is fully implemented in 2014. That also means practices associated with these smaller hospitals will see the same thing happen to them.
This is about the quality of care this group provides. It's better than most groups in the area.
Richard you are completely wrong about why they left and Bob, you are right, but you left out a vital part of information-uncompensated care. Decatur General wasn't in a position to help them offset the cost of the many deliveries they did for people with no insurance. Sounds like Huntsville understands and is financially able to help offset that liability. Welcome back Decatur OB/GYN Associates.
It's a shame because I have enjoyed the care from these doctors that will be out of a job. They picked right up and delivered when we had no one to do it.
AMEN Christina, Decatur General was left high and dry with NO ob-gyn's when they left town. Monarch Dr's and employees should be commended for doing an excellent job!
