Decatur to become tribe with 2 chiefs?
By Tiffeny Owens
Carl Cole pitches himself as the change candidate in Decatur’s mayoral election. His brand of change could provide Decatur with the city manager citizens voted for in 2010. But it could create a … More »

It sounds like Carl is wanting to setup himself up to be able to run his Attorney's Office out of City Hall. Now that would be a good setup!!

I say Cole is letting the fat out of the bag too soon. He should wait until he's elected to make a city manager. Then he can say., "take over, I'm due in court" andI'll bet that will be the norm. Making money as an atorney and getting themayor's salary at the same time. Smart? How sweet it is.

Thats my big Question about Cole. IF, he gets elected and if the council says, sorry you wanted to be Mayor, YOUR MAYOR. How can he juggle that and his law firm.

Anything has to be better than the others running.

This makes sense to me. Just change Wally Terry's job title to city manager and cut the Mayor's salary. It has worked in other places. Why not Decatur?

We must pick the candidate with the best experience.

I like Carl, but he's not ready yet for the big time and is trying to sell a simpleton plan to voters that currently has no chance of passing. Kyle will do well when Billy and the rest of the incumbents are gone and there is a council that supports him. Kyle is the best choice out of what we have to choose from.

I don't know why we have to change anything. Cole is better than Kyle but Don Stanford keeps Wally Terry without changing anything.

cole has been running for some form of office since he was old enough to vote. He is a big demo Rex has put him up to this run and both are goofy.

That's just silly Lisa. Cole supported Chris Priest who is running against Rex. This silliness needs to stop. Kyle is the big Democrat in the race. Other William, why doesn't Stanford say he'll take half salary?

District 2 residents. Come to the Columns of Decatur Tuesday night August 14th.from 5 p.m. - 7 p.m. and meet candidate BJ Wascom. The columns of Decatur is located at 601 Jackson Street S.E.

Does anyone sense that the DD is in the bag for Cole?

Kyle had a news conference this week on the same subject but the DD did not show.

Ask a members of The Democrat Club about their No Show leader Cole. They had trouble getting him to meet so they could remove him.

What happened to his FB praises of Obama? The disappeared shortly after he announced for candidate.

He could provide comic relief in council meetings. He almost turned blue in the last forum when no one would agree with him.

Face it he is a TRIAL LAWYER and it is in his training to color the truth!

What I know is that Don Kyle was at the big DemoRAT fundraiser and that Cole supports Chris Priest the Republican because I saw him at his party and was told he went door to door for him. Don Kyle has some pretty radical Demo supporters like that nutty Webb guy that writes letters to the Daily all the time. I dont know what Cole or Kyle are but I know that Don Stanford is a Republican. If he had a chance I'd vote for him but I'm afraid he doesn't stand a chance.

They both look like clowns to me. They ought to fit right in at city hall!

I am not normally politically outspoken, but I think what Cole is doing is insulting to the voters of Decatur. He is spinning this vote (City Manager) thing to meet his own agenda.

He says he is running to fulfill the will of the peoples vote on 2010. The vote was for a complete change in form of government. Now that Kyle has called him out on that, he is now acknowledged that the statute he is quoting would not in fact address the formal change of government. Well, Mr. Cole, isn't that what the people voted for?

As far as Cole being a democrat or republican...who knows...in a local election are the candidates supposed to be bipartisan anyway in order to do their jobs effectively? He ran against a sitting representative (Aderholt) in 2010 and lost, he's never run a business other than his own law practice, and he has little qualifications outside of his legal profession. Now he wants to use the Decatur Mayor "title" to launch his political career and earn a part time salary while keeping his newly formed independent law firm going in the process. He says that he is going to save the city money by becoming a part time mayor.

Here's the deal...We all know the vote that happened in 2010 and Wally Terry being hired as VP of Business Development was because Stanford could not do his job. We had to have some leadership in place. We had no other choice.

it costs the city $106K per year. Had Stanford been doing his job, this vote would have never taken place. In the absence of a real mayor, Wally Terry appears tohave done a good job moving things, but if Wally Terry is made City manager, under Cole's plan, someone would have to take Wally Terry's position, so now we wind up with three top level salaries, where does it end?

I have read the statute that Cole is quoting and its only a title and a description for a City Manager. It don't take a "lawyer" to read this and know that it's not as "simple" as it implies. He wants a City manager to do the job so that he can have his cake and eat it too... he wants to be a career politician, draw a salary, and use the position as part time (or full time Mayor) to build his resume for his future not OURS. We have one clear choice for Mayor. Kyle got alot of things done for this city and can hit the ground running. We have roads to build and schools to fund. We don't have the luxury for a city leader requiring training wheels.

It's hard for short term mayors to implement long term goals.

Cole is a golden boy for much of SE Decatur, but what a goof he is.

BTW, stupidest headline EVER.
