Decatur tops Muscle Shoals to halt skid
Staff reports

Decatur High's Na'Vante Williams made 10 of 11 foul shots and finished with 18 points as the Red Raiders won at Muscle Shoals 49-47 on Saturday night.

Kaleb Smith added 16 points, including a pair of 3-pointers in a 15-5 third quarter run. Matthew Papich pitched in seven points, with all of them coming after intermission.

Jake Wood had 17 points for Muscle Shoals, as he sank five 3-pointers. His 3-pointer at the buzzer just past midcourt hit the rim and bounced out.

Decatur trailed 27-23 at the half before taking a 38-32 lead into the fourth quarter.

Decatur Heritage 68, St. Bernard 30: Tyde Coffey poured in a game-high 27 points as the Eagles routed St. Bernard.

Coffey connected on 12 of 20 shots and also grabbed 11 rebounds. Jordan Holland was the only other Decatur Heritage player to reach double figures with 12 points.

JaDavian Roland scored 13 points for Saint Bernard, but made only 6 of 25 shots.

Decatur Heritage led 38-14 at the half and increased it to 58-18 after three quarters.

Girls basketball

Decatur 37, Muscle Shoals 29: The Lady Red Raiders won their fourth game of the season, doubling their win total from last season.

Mariah Mort scored only two points for the winners, but she added 13 rebounds, three assists and two steals. Cierra Wallace has 12 points. Constance Steele had seven rebounds and four points, while Taneisha Johnson had six points and four rebounds.

Defensively, Decatur forced 29 turnovers and limited the Lady Trojans to seven baskets.

Decatur led 17-10 at the half and extended it to 25-16 after three quarters.

Shan Sherrod led Muscle Shoals with six points.

West Limestone 64, Lauderdale County 48: Three players scored in double figures as West Limestone upset Class 3A, No. 1 Lauderdale County.

The Wildcats outscored Lauderdale County 23-4 in the second quarter to take control.

Cayla Carter led the way with 19 points, while Olivia Blankenship added 16 and Autumn Bates scored 13.

Karlee Brown led Lauderdale County (8-2) with 14 points. Chatara Cox scored 13 and Haley Avery added 12.

West Limestone hit five 3-pointers in the decisive second quarter.

Wrestling

Athens High won a pair of wrestling matches Friday, beating Deshler and East Limestone.

Athens defeated Deshler 54-24, getting wins by pin from Thomas Carter (138-pound division), Rhett Reeves (152), Rob Morse (182) and Bolton Patton (195).

The Golden Eagles also got wins by forfeit from Michael Hill (heavyweight), Jonathan Daily (220), Phillip Patton (160) and Christian Lagunas (112).

Athens 55, East Limestone 24: Bolton Patton (195), Reeves (152), Antonio Villalabos (145) and Thomas Carter (138) each won by pin for Athens, while Daily (220), Morse (182), Horito Vicente (132) and Lagunas (112) won by forfeit.

Phillip Patton (160) picked up a win with a 12-2 decision, while Hill (heavyweight) won by a 6-2 decision.
