Fite's slam the big blow for Decatur

Jackson Fite blasted a grand slam in the bottom of the fourth inning, boosting Decatur High to the 10-0 win over Florence in the Class 6A, Area 16 contest at Decatur.


William Woller finished 3-for-3 with a double and two RBIs, and Will Gann finished 3-for-3 with an RBI in the shutout.

Quintin Dupper, Harold Blades, Camp Metcalf, Tanner Burns and Matthew Papich all recorded singles. Gann got the pitching win, striking out three and allowing two hits through five innings. Decatur (11-6, 0-1) will continue area play in a doubleheader at Florence today.


Austin 7, James Clemens 6: Seth Richardson finished 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI to lead the Black Bears in the Class 6A, Area 16 game.


Terry Sibley also finished with two hits for Austin (7-8, 1-0).


Jimmy Pritchett got the pitching win, allowing one hit with two strikeouts in 1 2/3 innings.


East Limestone 5-0, Cullman 4-13: In Game 1, Colby Sneed finished 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs to lead the Indians in the Class 5A, Area 15 game at Cullman.


Ben Rhodes and Tanner Rhodes both added a double.
Matthew Franks got the pitching win, striking out three and scattering five hits in 6 2/3 innings.


In Game 2, Bearcats scored 12 runs in the third and fourth innings to shut out East Limestone. Cameron Ashmore got the lone hit for the Indians, finishing 1-for-2.


Keegan Thompson struck out 13 batters through five innings in the win.

Hartselle 12, West Point 1: Brett Blackwood hit a home run, finishing 2-for-3 with three RBIs for the Tigers (19-6).


Blake Slayton hit a double with three RBIs, while Tanner Oaks, Easton Chenault and Aaron Lamb all added doubles.


Jake Whitt got the pitching win, striking out two and scattering one hit.
Lawrence County 4-6, Russellville 3-9: Trace White hit a double and a triple with two RBIs, helping the Red Devils break the three-run tie in the seventh inning in the Class 5A, Area 16 game.


Carson Jones, Zach Terry and Jordan Simpson each hit a single.
Tanner Reed got the pitching win, scattering nine hits and striking out five through seven innings.


In Game 2, Jones led the Red Devils with two hits and two RBIs.

Clements 2-0, Lauderdale County 1-10: Cole White got the pitching win in Game 1, striking out seven and allowing four hits.

Clay Russell and Chris Tidwell both added a hit, while Seth Hamilton finished with a hit and an RBI.

In Game 2, Hamilton finished with one hit, as the Tigers got the shutout in five innings.

West Morgan 10-3, Madison Academy 0-9: Trey Mathis got the pitching win in Game 1, striking out three and allowing one hit for the Rebels (8-5, 1-1 in Class 3A, Area 15).

Mathis finished 3-for-4 with two doubles and three RBIs, while J.T. Kirby hit 2-for-3 with an RBI.

Brad Wilson hit a double and a single with an RBI.

In Game 2, Blake New hit a triple, and Kirby added two RBIs.

Decatur Heritage 10, Falkville 9: Sawyer Holland hit a double in the seventh inning, scoring Grayson Wakefield to break the nine-run tie Wednesday night.

 Holland also added a home run, while Dakota Hunter finished with a double and an RBI on two hits.

Armstrong got the pitching win, striking out one and scattering three hits through 1 1/3 innings.

Softball

Austin 11, Decatur 1: Anna Leigh Mitchell got the pitching win, striking out seven and scattering three hits in the Class 6A, Area 16 game.

Aleah Garth and Sydney Dishman each finished with a double and an RBI in the win, while Erin Claborn added a double and two RBIs.

Eighth-grader Bria Smiley homered for the Red Raiders’ only run.

Lawrence County 9, Muscle Shoals 1: Mackenzie Hill finished with a triple, a double and three RBIs to help the Red Devils win the Class 5A, Area 16 game.

Whitney Woodard hit a double with three RBIs, while Katie Burden added a double for Lawrence County (16-5, 3-0).

Ashton Malcom got the pitching win, scattering seven hits and striking out two.

Hatton 3, Lexington 0: The Class 2A No. 1 Hornets were led by Hillary Carpenter, who scattered one hit and struck out nine in the area win.

Carpenter also drove in all three runs for Hatton (13-3, 3-0 in Class 2A, Area 15), finishing with an RBI-double and a two-RBI single, while Jami Hunter hit a double.

West Morgan 3, Decatur Heritage 2: Hannah Draper pitched a complete game, striking out five in the win.

Lexie Grant and Jada Terry led the Rebels (11-10-1) at the plate with a single and an RBI each.

Draper and Taylor Goodpastor each had singles in the win. Peyton Barthel and Hannah Olinger both hit doubles in the loss, while Chandler Sparkman and Bridget Bradford finished with singles for the Eagles (8-2).

Golf

Hartselle wins tri-match: The Tigers combined for a score of 155 to win the tri-match. West Morgan followed with a 165, while Decatur Heritage shot a 170.

 Jordan Hartsell led Hartselle with a 37, while Robbie Fields shot a 38 and Garrett Reist fired a 39.

Dakota Terry shot a 38 for West Morgan, while Matthew Wallace finished with a 39.

For Decatur Heritage, Evan Francis shot a 40 while Jack Francis fired a 41.

 Lawrence County Red 143, Brooks Black 169: Lawrence County Red finished with a 1-under-par 143 to lead the Red Devils in the match at Deer Park.

Martin Little shot a 34, Tyler Hogan fired a 35, and both Jesse Childress and Trenton Smith finished with a 37 to lead the Red Devils.

Lawrence County White combined for a score of 179, led by Taylor Gibson with a 41.

Russell Porter shot a 45, Kam Liles fired a 47 and Blake Bohanon shot a 47.

 Morgan County Golf Tournament: Both Hartselle boys and girls teams picked up the tournament win, as Jake Tiffin, Reist, Aaron Compton, Robbie Fields and Hartselle combined for a score of 323 for the Hartselle Red.

Decatur came in second in the boys tournament with a combined score of 333.

 Arin Eddy, Beth Ann Compton and Lunden Turner totaled 271 to lead the girls tournament, as Danville trailed with a 353.

Patrick Newsom shot a 78 to take the individual win, while Eddy fired a 74 to lead the girls.

Soccer

Austin boys 5, Albertville 2: Dalton Crosley scored three goals to lead Austin to the win at home.

Jonathan Ramirez and David Jaimes each added one goal, while Lane Dean made six saves for the Black Bears (8-2-1).

Decatur boys 3, Sparkman 2: Carlos Carbajal led the Red Raiders with two goals, while Deacon Iverson finished with one goal.

Max Ackley played in goal for Decatur (6-4-2).

Athens girls 5, Hartselle 0: Kate Morgan scored two goals, while Juli Owens, Kaitlyn Wise and Klaire Phillips scored one each.

Grace Morgan, Riley Ridgeway and Phillips each finished with one assist.

West Limestone boys 4, Covenant Christian 0: Anthony McCain, Matthew Sanders, Josh Hutchinson and Javier Martinez each scored in the win.

Luis Garcia and Oswald Ramos added assists for the Wildcats.

Sparkman girls 2, Decatur 0: Anna Claire Gann made seven saves in the loss.

 Athena Lindsay and Amanda Munoz both scored for the Senators.

West Morgan girls 3, Madison Academy 3: Payton Parker scored two goals with one assist to lead the Rebels in the game at Madison Academy.

Maribel Delgado added a goal and an assist, while Bre Thorne finished with an assist.

Hannah Amos made 12 saves for West Morgan (8-2-1).

Tennis

Decatur Heritage girls 7, Athens Bible 2: Abby Tubbs, Ginny Light, April Little and Avery Bowman all posted wins in singles to lift the Eagles (5-1) in the match at Athens Bible.

Teams of Emme Slaton and Merrell Bowman won 10-7 in No. 1 doubles, while No. 2 Tubbs and Light won 10-1 and No. 3 Avery Bowman and Little won 10-0.

Madison Academy boys 5, Decatur Heritage 4: In singles, No. 5 Sam Miller won 10-4, while No. 6 Grant Harper won 10-3. Teams of Brent King and Josh Burgreen won 10-7 in No. 2 doubles, while No. 3 Miller and Harper won 10-4.
