Former Austin player Mostella wows dunk contest fans
By Justin Graves
The Decatur Daily

Former Austin High basketball star Detrick Mostella is gaining Internet fame as a member of the La Lumiere (Ind.) Lakers.

While in Honolulu during the holiday break for the Iolani Classic, Mostella wowed fans in attendance while winning the tournament's slam dunk contest. In his fourth and final dunk, Mostella, a 6-foot-3 Oklahoma State signee, leaped over three players from the foul line, including one who was 6-10.

A video from the tournament's dunk contest is gaining popularity on YouTube. It currently has more than 4,500 views.

La Lamiere, a preparatory school near Gary, Ind., finished second in the Iolani Classic, and Mostella was selected as the tournament's most outstanding player.

Mostella, a high school senior, transferred from Austin to La Lamiere during the summer. According to Rivals.com, he is a four-star prospect and the nation's 22nd best 2-guard.

Mostella was The Daily's Class 4A-6A boys basketball player of the year as a sophomore in 2011.
