Fuel-water mixture transportation plan nixed
Daily photo by John Godbey
Decatur firefighters and police officers joined an Alabama trooper today at the former site of Carl's Foodmart at Sixth Avenue and Johnston Street Southeast after halting a crew pumping out a mixture of gasoline and water from an old fuel storage tank.

Authorities today halted a plan to transport barrels containing a gasoline-and-water mixture along local roads.

The barrels would have been moved on a wooden trailer pulled by a vehicle, and police and fire officials wanted more safeguards in place.

A crew had pumped the mixture from an old fuel storage tank at the former Carl's Foodmart at Sixth Avenue and Johnston Street Southeast.

A passerby smelled fumes and notified police. A crew trained and bonded to transport the materials has been called to haul away the mixture.

Check back later today for more details.

Not real bright!

I guess the more fumes they inhaled the better their idea seemed. "Hey yall watch this"

Gas sale at Lacon Trade Day!

Working in the office near by - we could smell the fumes inside the office. Don't think there was much water in that mix.
