Well you certainly don't have to worry about mistaking a funeral procession for something else in Decatur, the 6 or so police cars escorting it take care of that. I've often wondered if the city is reimbursed for this service, it seems having that many cars as escorts is a little excessive.
"Ain't going to get no". Are you kidding me?! This guy is the acting fire chief, and that is the grammar he is using?!
Wonder if this Offends Christa French???
Funeral escorts are dangerous and should be stopped. If the police are having to use 6 or more officers for a funeral, that is six or more officers not available to do other duties. Even with that number there are intersections that cannot be blocked until the procession has passed. Officers have told me that they have been complained on by people in the processions for driving too fast passing the escort to catch an intersection, to motioning for motorists in the procession to catch up to the procession that is causing dangerous gaps in the procession. In Montgomery last year, a motor officer was killed by someone in the procession as he passed the procession to catch an intersection. The motorist in the procession made a left turn because they decided not to be in the procession any longer. It is dangeorus for the police, it is dangerous for the participants in the procession. It is an unneccessary dangerous risk. It looks good, it makes the families feel better, but it is just too dangerous. Cities are not reimbursed for the service. Having that many officers Angie K. depending on the size of the escort is warranted. However, I have observed DPD on a number of occassions having more units in the escort than the size of the escort itself.
