in TOC silver division
Sixth-ranked Lawrence County in Class 4A went 4-2 to take second place in the silver division of the Tournament of Champions hosted by Danville High on Saturday. The Lady Red Devils defeated Hartselle, ranked fourth in Class 5A, 25-23, 25-12 and Madison County 25-23, 25-21 before falling to Addison 25-22, 25-16. Addison is the top-ranked team in Class 2A. Lawrence County rebounded with a 25-9, 28-26 win over Class 1A No. 9 Donoho and then ousted Class 4A, No. 3 Haleyville 25-15, 25-20. The Lady Red Devils then fell to Guntersville, the second-ranked Class 4A team, 25-22, 25-13 in the silver finals. Leading Lawrence County were Shae Lane with 78 assists. Summer Wilkerson added 45 assists. Wilkerson tallied 46 kills and Haley Nichols had 28 kills. Nakia McDaniel collected 27 blocks and Christy Roewe added 15 more. Nichols led the team in digs with 20 while McDaniel had 16. Lawrence County is 41-9 on the season. Elkmont 3-1 in tournament: Elkmont defeated Brewer, Speake and Donoho and lost to Addison in the Tournament of Champions. Leading the Lady Red Devils was Bailee Robinson with 40 digs. Ashlee Roberson totaled 30 digs. Michelle Tucker and Stephanie Bentley each collected 25 kills on the day. Olivia Pressnell had 23 assists and Brooke Pressnell had 18. Brooke had 22 digs and Olivia had 11. Tucker led the team with 18 blocks and Robinson added six. Sarah Solomon had three aces, and Roberson and Robinson had a pair of aces. Elkmont is 31-5. Austin in Hoover: Austin went 3-3 overall in the Hoover Over-The-Mountain tournament in Hoover on Friday and Saturday. The Lady Black Bears racked up wins over Montgomery Academy 25-22, 25-18, Clay-Chalkville 25-15, 25-13 and South Forsythe, Ga., 25-23, 25-22. They lost to Father Ryan (Tenn.), Pelham and Bob Jones. For the tournament, Carlie Keenum totaled 35 assists and Erin Reid had 23. Andrea Frame had 21 kills and Lindsey Fail added 13. Fail led the team in digs with 24 while Frame added 13. Fail recorded seven aces while Kayla Miller contributed six aces. In blocks, Katie Clark had 10 and Rachel Foster had five. Austin (191-7) will host its last regular-season matches Tuesday when Madison Academy visits at 4 p.m. and Florence plays the Lady Black Bears at 6 p.m. Decatur finalist in Eagle division: Decatur fell to Fort Payne 25-18, 25-22 in the finals of the Eagle division of the Athens’ Optimists volleyball tournament Saturday. In the first round of the divisional play, the Lady Red Raiders beat West Limestone 25-21, 12-25, 15-13. In pool play, Decatur fell to Ardmore 25-20, 25-9 and Brooks 25-5, 25-15. Kim Collis and Scarlett Wright were selected all-tournament for Decatur. For the tournament, Collis totaled 34 assists and 20 digs. Wright had a dozen digs. Wright also had 11 kills and Jakira Myers had nine. Whitney Alexander had eight blocks and Hannah Weather added six blocks. Mallory Alexander had four aces.
