Look, I know a crime is a crime. I am usually not very lenient when it comes to those that commit them. However, it was $16 worth of merchandise, which you recovered on the spot, so why then go and have a warrant issued for socks and sandals?
BECAUSE NEXT TIME IT MAY BE YOUR CAR
or worst, MINE. William nailed it..... it STARTS with petty theft & escalates from there. thats whats wrong now days. for items like that everyone is aware of salvation army & places as that.
they start off with little stuff to see if they can get away with bigger and better next!!! I agree, if they needed socks and shoes, someone at any church would have given them some!!
That was a pretty stupid comment from Calhoun Library.
To think that the thief would have just stopped at those items and not moved on to other items is idiotic.
A thief is a thief no matter what he/she steals. What if someone had stolen items from you that you worked hard for and earned with your time and money. I would prosecute no matter the amount.
Not only that, if you take the the items stolen everyday from stores across the country, its in the millions of dollars. Where does that money come from to make up for the stolen items. The prices WE have to pay at the same store, the retailer has to make it up somewhere. So essentially, these thieves are stealing money from us as well.
actually, those thieves aren't stealing money from "us". as a former employee, the money to make up the difference comes from the employees when their store shrinks out during inventory & they lose their bonuses. and the simple fact of the matter is when the warrant is issued, officers have to take time away from catching drug dealers & murderers to look for this guy, who will only get slapped on the wrist when he gets to court b/c the amount is so small. i'm with calhoun library.......let this one go.
