LAWRENCEBURG, Tenn. — A Lawrenceburg man remains in jail after being arrested on a grand jury indictment for six counts of aggravated statutory rape, officials said.
Courthouse officials said George Edward Staggs, 45, of Second Street, Lawrenceburg, was indicted by the recently concluded Lawrence County grand jury session.
Reports indicate Staggs is accused of having a sexual relationship a 17-year-old Lawrenceburg girl.
Police said the girl, who is now an adult, knew Staggs through a friend of the family.
Staggs is being held in the Lawrence County Jail on $60,000 bail.
He is scheduled to appear in Lawrence County Circuit Court on Dec. 10.
