NORTH COURTLAND — Marion County used a stifling defense and unstoppable offense to propel the Red Raiders past R.A. Hubbard 47-21 Friday night in the second round of the Class 1A playoffs.
The Red Raiders scored on all but two drives during the game, giving themselves a comfortable 40-point cushion before taking their foot off the gas.
Marion County (11-1) used fullback Justin Simpson to get chunks of yards from the beginning of the game. The senior led the Raiders into Hubbard territory before the Chiefs (7-5) could force a third down situation.
On third-and-five, however, the Raiders put the ball in the air and Sean Wallace hit DeShawn Riebeshel for a 45-yard touchdown.
John Owens and Darian Almon had touchdown runs for the Chiefs in the second half.
