Well, they work 24 hour shifts. And the city can call for assistance from other departments that would allow travel time to call in when off-duty.
Mr. Mayor, now you will limit you applicants to a few....antiquated way of managing.
I don't know that I disagree with the Mayor so much. Think back to April 27 of last year. If they needed to call in firefighters to help with the amount of distruction that was caused by the tornados, do you really want to have them trying to drive from Birmingham? I couldn't even get to Athens and chances are they wouldn't have been able to get up here from B'ham. 10 miles may be a little too much but who's to say?
it's Tankersly a "lame duck" mayor? not running for re-election?

Why change policy at the end of your term? w hen a new mayor has to come in and deal with your policy changes.
