Good job Ana. His circumstances are unfortunant but his action illegal. He knew better.
I can't help but feel this story is an attempt to generate sympathy for somebody illegally selling controlled substances. Sorry, but his circumstance does not excuse him from being held accountable to the law. If that was the case, we could excuse a lot of crimes based on why they were committed. Apparently Sheriff Franklin has substantial evidence from her undercover agents buying drugs from this guy, so he must not need the pills as badly as he says he does.
Prescription drug abuse is becoming the #1 way addiction amongst teenagers and young adults, so there is good money in it if you can do without your pain killers and are willing to break the law. Doctors over prescribing pain killers does not help the issue. Some will probably try to say this was about the man needing money to eat, so he was having to make a choice between that or taking his pills, but that is usually in accurate argument for a situation like this. While that topic is brought up about senior citizens having to choose between eating and paying for their medicines, this guy is buying his pain killers and then probably selling them at up to $100 a pill, all because he is trying to make lots of quick, easy money.
