Mayor stanford makes 106 thousand dollars?!?!?!? Are you kidding me?? Wally terry does the mayors job and makes less than him.
Maybe Wally should run for Mayor! It would be a win-win situation for Decatur! He could get a $2,631 raise and take over the duty of kissing babies and cutting ribbons at new business operations in town. City of Decatur would save $104,000 on the City Manager position they would no longer need!
We all wish Wally could, but he cannot run against the mayor he works for. Wally would be the best thing for the city but can he risk a $100k job on a chance to win the election?
sad, when you compare a teacher's salary to a superintendent's salary....wonder who has the toughest job?
See what's funny about this article? DU keeps asking for money and they get it. They are the major expense of this city and they sit on their ass and make excuses when something fors wrong with our service. A lot more of these people are way overpayed and are experts at making exfuse why something RIGHT didn't happen. Now the funniest part. Salaries of Medical responders, Police, Firemen, who risk their lives every day for us doersn't even come close to their salaries. Furhter investigation will show a lot of these high priced officials don't even live in the city. They live in surrounding areas and pay their taxes to the city they live in. Enjoy the rest of the day after reading this.
Da*n!
Comparing utility worker pay, DU seems right in line, but the superintendent from Hartselle is way overpaid for the size of the system, and the composition of the student body. Hartselle can screen their students from out-of-district, and charge tuition. They also have many students who leave Hartselle City Schools in junior high when they are doing poorly and are driven tuition-free to various Morgan County schools. So Hartselle is probably one of the easiest cities anywhere to achieve high test scores.
Thank you so much DD for the pot stirring article about salaries.... Why does it matter to you what these people make?? Are we so bombarded by the class warfare in America today that we think that anybody who makes more than we do is overpaid and undeserving?? Does it affect your daily life, your job, your family, one single bit that these individuals are paid for the work they do?? Do you think everyone should be paid the same??? Would that be FAIR?? Our country is being dumbed down by the liberals and the media. The principles of exceptionalism and innovation are the hallmarks of America, they are sadly being lost to the principles of mediocrity and political correctness.
Well Patrick, i am positive the mayor is undeserving and overpaid.
Orville, have you ever considered that the person in your mirror is the one making you miserable. Patrick nailed it. The Daily is banking on a certain percentage of readers who see life through your perspective, thus they publish this list. It's really none of your business. Most of these folks are career professionals in their chosen field. I do agree that we have a poor Mayor, but soon we have the opportunity to impact that position through our vote.
William, I do agree with you on that one!!
Patrick is right, this article has an agenda and he nailed what it was. Though I do also have to agree that Stanford is overpaid. Not because I think the mayor's position does not deserve that pay, but because I think Stanford has not earned it.
Actually, DECATUR from Decatur, public officials' salaries ARE our business, including the people at the DD, as long as we are the ones paying them. (please don't misunderstand this as any love for the paper)
Because it is TAX PAYER money Patrick, thats why it matters. It is not a Private industry it is a PUBLIC FUNDED entity.
TAX PAYER FUNDED........The public needs and deserves to know. THanks Decatur Daily.
The biggest problem is NOT the salary. It is the defined benefit retirement and medical coverage for retirees.
....
Won't you take a look to see what these high paid officials pay their workers. You would be surprised! They're the ones doing all the work after all, but they make minimum wage. Really!?!?!?!?
Patrick - The pay of any of our public officials is everyone's business, but we also want an efficient and responsive government. There must be a balance! Just because some makes x number of dollars does not mean that they are overpaid. But paying public officials lots of money does effect everyone's life because this is money that could be used for other projects, ie road repairs, drainage repairs, sewer and water line upgrades, etc.
On the larger issue of class warfare in America and the evilness of the liberal media, I would advise you to do some research on the issue before "Ditto heading" along with the right wing opinion machine. Is it fair that large corporations and CEO's pay have grown exponentially, while the workers standard of living have remained frozen? Is it fair that large sectors of the private industry (banking, Auto) have been bailed out by our government, while millions of homeowners have been foreclosed upon? Is it fair that large corporations and billionaires now can pick who they want for political office by huge donations to campaigns? The greatest fear of the plutocrats is that the people will become aware of this hypocrisy and rise up against it.
No Elected official should make this kind of money. Not Mayors, Superintendents, Representatives, Senators, even the President. These people were elected because the wanted to serve and make a difference (or their own agenda) All they should be paid for is their expenses for travel to do the job they wanted to be elected to do,. Most of the people that work under them struggle to make ends meet on a day to day basis.
It's just like the Superintendents, they make 100k better a year, teachers between 40-60K a year... but you Aides Less that 20k a year, Secretaries/bookeepers top out at 28K after 20+ yrs experience, and Especially CNP's they don't even make 18k a year! What would the schools do without them?
thank you for the research daily. It is nice to know this information after DU jumped our rates and one sees all the administrators for the city schools making 100k+
as long as they earn it
It will be one less if we elect Carl Cole.
