Hartselle Councilman Ken Doss, who defeated opponent Franklin D. Turney 1,420 to 760 in a runoff in October, was selected to serve on the city planning commission this week.
Doss, 63, retired from Sonoco in Hartselle but has served on the planning commission, board of zoning adjustment, personnel board and Hartselle Area Chamber of Commerce in the past.
Doss will replace Bill Smelser on the commission. Smelser, who is serving a third term on the council, stepped down from the commission when he was elected council president last month after beating challenger A.D. Hargrove 2,006 to 815 in August’s municipal election.
