Parrish boys defeat Hubbard

Parrish boys end Hubbard's season

Parrish defeated R.A. Hubbard 62-50 tonight in their Northwest Regional Class 1A boys semifinal at Wallace State in Hanceville.

Lynn romps past Shoals Christian

The Lynn girls ended Shoals Christian's season with a 52-26 victory in the Class 1A semifinals of the Northwest Regional.

Marion County boys top Shoals Christian

Shoals Christian's postseason run came to an end this afternoon with a 71-45 loss to Marion County in a boys basketball Class 1A semifinal at the Northwest Regional tournament.

The Flame, the Area 16 tournament champion, finish the season with a 15-14 record.

Marion County (25-6) advances to the final to play the Parrish-R.A. Hubbard winner Saturday at 10:40 a.m. at Wallace State-Hanceville's Tom Drake Coliseum.

Hubbard defeats Falkville

The R.A. Hubbard girls basketball team advanced to the Class 1A Northwest Regional final with a 61-51 victory over Falkville today at Wallace State in Hanceville.

Alex Gholston scored a game-high 27 points for the Chiefs (20-5).

Hubbard held off a late Falkville charge, even with Gholston on the bench during pivotal minutes during the fourth quarter.

The Chiefs will play at 9 a.m. Saturday against the winner of tonight's Shoals Christian-Lynn game.

Trailing by double digits since the first quarter, Falkville (20-4) pulled within nine points, 43-34, with 6:03 to play.

But with Gholston on the bench with four fouls, the Chiefs responded with three straight baskets, pushing the lead back out to 15. Falkville, which lost leading scorer Sydney Moore to an ankle injury with 3:43 to play, never came within single digits the rest of the way.

Moore and Autumn Eddy had 13 each to lead Falkville.

The Chiefs also played the final 3:27 of the first half without Gholston but still led Falkville 29-18 at halftime.

Gholston suffered a bloody nose after taking a shot during a drive to the basket and left the game. She returned for the halftime shoot-around with her teammates and started the second half.

Falkville fell into an early hole, shot 1-of-12 in the first quarter and struggled against Hubbard's pressure defense.

Hubbard led by as much as 28-12 before Gholston left the game in the first half.

Senators give Sparkman a sweep

The Sparkman boys gave their school a sweep of Hillcrest Tuscaloosa today in the Northwest Regional, taking a 48-41 victory in the Class 6A semifinals at Wallace State in Hanceville.

Sparkman girls make 6A final

The Sparkman girls defeated Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa 55-25 today to advance to the Northwest Regional Class 6A girls final at Wallace State in Hanceville.

Hazel Green boys advance

The Hazel Green boys defeated Hoover 68-54 in a Northwest Regional Class 6A boys semifinal today.

Hazel Green improved to 24-8 and will meet the winner of today's second semifinal between Sparkman and Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa.

Hoover tops Austin by 24-point margin

The Hoover girls defeated Austin 59-35 in their Northwest Regional Class 6A semifinal today at Wallace State in Hanceville.

Hoover led 21-14 at halftime.

Tanner boys rout Vincent in final Tuesday night game

Jace Haggermaker recorded a double-double as he led third-ranked Tanner past No. 4 Vincent 53-39 on Tuesday night in the Class 2A Northwest Regional semifinals.

Haggermaker scored 13 points, grabbed 12 rebounds and blocked seven shots.

Tanner advances to face Hatton in the regional final.
