The top-ranked Tanner Rattlers are one win away from the Class 2A state finals and their quarterback is a sophomore.

Jonathon Fletcher, 5-11, 170-pounds, is charged with orchestrating the 12-0 Rattlers’ array of talent.

Fletcher has passed for 946 yards and 11 touchdowns and rushed for 347 yards and four touchdowns. He is also key defender, recording four interceptions as a defensive back.

Fletcher took a break from preparing for Friday’s semifinal game at Reeltown to sit down with Daily sports writer Bayne Hughes and answer 10 questions:

Question: How to you feel about your team’s season?

Answer: I feel good about what we’ve accomplished as a team. We’ve got a lot done this year, but we’re not satisfied. We don’t want to experience we had last year (losing in the state finals). We want to win it all.

Q: Why has Tanner been so successful during the past 10 years under Coach Laron White?

A: He’s willing to put whoever can play on the field, and everybody works hard.

Q: What is the key to your team being successful Friday?

A: We just have to go out and do what we do. We stop the run and play hard the whole game.

Q: You play football and basketball for the Rattlers so which sport is your favorite?

A: I really don’t have a favorite. I’ve played both all of my life.

Q: What is your favorite kind of music?

A: R&B is my favorite because I like the beat and the music.

Q: Who is your favorite R&B artist?

A: Kendrick Lamar. He just makes good music. He writes lyrics about stuff from everyday life. His beats are just real good, too.

Q: Will you be on Santa’s good or bad list this Christmas?

A: Hopefully, the good list. I want an early present of winning a state championship.

Q: What do you like to do when you’re not studying or playing football?

A: Hang out with friends, play video games and listen to music.

Q: What kind of video games do you like to play?

A: I love football, basketball — any kind of sport.

Q: Who is the best video-gamer on the team?

A: My cousin Frederick Rich. I’m not the best. I just like to play.
