COLLINSVILLE — Playing on the road in the first round of the Class 1A playoffs proved to be no problem for R.A. Hubbard.
After being held scoreless in the first half the Chiefs scored 18 unanswered points in the second half to knock off Collinsville 18-15 on Friday night.
John Owens ran for 153 yards and two touchdowns to spark Hubbard (7-4). The Chiefs will host Marion County in next Friday’s second-round game.
Trailing 7-0 at halftime, Hubbard pulled within one point when Owens scored on a 5-yard run with 6:15 left in the third quarter.
The Chiefs got the ball back late in the quarter and drove for the go-ahead score. Owens capped the drive with a 6-yard run and Hubbard led 12-7.
Hubbard sealed the win when Deontae Cater intercepted a Collinsville pass and returned it 14 yards for a touchdown to push the margin to 18-7.
Collinsville (8-2) scored with 17.5 seconds remaining to cut it to 18-15, but the Chiefs recovered the onside kick to claim the victory.
Pickens County 6 3 , Falkville 0: Falkville’s season came to an end with a first-round loss.
