Priceville will get that interstate business now instead of Hartselle. Congrats to Priceville.
Priceville will get that interstate business now instead of Hartselle. Congrats to Priceville.
Smart people in Priceville. After the election last night you better get your tax money anyway you can.
What interstate business are you referring to? Priceville isn't that large and I don't exactly see any large restaurants rushing to build in Priceville. JW's is not even open for lunch except on the weekends and they aren't open at lunch (or weren't at one point). I don't think this is the big break that Priceville was waiting for.
Thanks Hartselle from the citizens of Decatur.
Someone told me Priceville will get all these big chain restaurants. They mentioned Olive Garden. That's great, now we just have to wait 30 years like Decatur to eat there.
.
I had to sit on the sidelines not in line for voting, because I am on crutches, and I heard so many people say that after standing in line for an hour there was no way they were standing in line again. I think it was intended to deter people to vote 2 X. Amazing how bull headed people are.
I will give my money to Decatur still. You can't stop people from buying it.
James, "someone told you"? This is part of the reason you lost James...failure to make solid, substantive argument, while insisting on demaning an audience makes you look biased and deceptive. You accused the council of dirty dealing, you accused me of monster truck rallys, you obtain pop culture data from TMZ, and for crying out loud, what the heck is a "porno place"? James, the internet has long since replaced such venues...you know, the tool you use to get statistics and information on country music artists...
We all already realize that Olive Garden built in Decatur...OF COURSE we are not getting an Olive Garden. Your "they" person is either incredibly out of touch, or you are pulling a quote from before 2010...OR...since you dont mention your source...this could be the same person that threw you under the bus with the council!
James, we are wet now, and the people have spoken. This internet you have been messing with...be careful, James, someone told me it was "of the Devil". Perhaps you should go after it!
James - look how long it took Decatur to get an Olive Garden. How is Priceville going to get one? 1225 people voted on the issue. I don't think the population of Priceville or other factors would meet the Olive Garden requiments. I don't see Olive Garden type restaurants coming to Priceville. We can't even get a Sonic or Taco Bell, or Jacks.
There's one definite thing about this whole matter....................Hartselle won't get anything but higher taxes!
Lori--in 2010, we DID meet Olive Garden's requirements, with the exception of legal sales. We were first choice, pending successful outcome of the wet vote. Didnt go through...and OG moved up the road.
When quoting population, bear in mind that city limits do not apply. Restaurants that locate at the I-65 interchange will draw from Eastern Decatur, and transient traffic from I-65.
But why are we still debating the talking points? The vote is over. It is not time to conform to the will of the voters.
Lori and James, outdated mentality toward suppression of personal freedoms suffered a blow, but that does not mean that you are not free to maintain that mentality yourselves. Dont buy alcohol. Dont shop at places that sell it if you wish. Dont drink it. It is your right. It is not your right to dictate the personal choices of others insofar as they do not affect your freedoms!
"now"...it is "now" time to confirm the will of the voters
Tom - Please be careful assuming what my mentality about alcohol sales is. I did not even mention the vote in my previous post. I am not judging anyone for their personal choices yet you seem to be judging me. You do not know me, my mind or my heart. My point is that I don't see Priceville getting tons of large sit down restaurants in the short term. I shop and eat in places that sell and serve alcohol. I live in the area. I hope to see some more places to eat in Priceville. I just don't see it happening overnight. It took Decatur years to get restaurants such as Olive Garden and Longhorn Steakhouse. Priceville may have now lost the opportunity to get some of the restaurants since they have already located in Decatur. Priceville will just have to go after other restaurants. I would settle for a few more fast food places to eat. I just don't want the local residents holding their breath for a sudden building boom in Priceville. If you own a small business you know that current laws and pending laws are making it more and more expensive to own and run that business. I hope to see Priceville grow. How about recruiting an awesome grocery store like Publix to Priceville. People just need to be patient, not judge others and quit spreading rumors.
If it ever does pass in Hartselle, there is nowhere that can sell it anyway, with all the churches, schools, daycares, nursing homes and assisted living facilities on every corner.....LOL.
“no facility or property shall be authorized for the sale of on-premises consumption or for the sale of off-premises consumption of alcoholic beverages where the facility or property is less than 500 feet from any church, school, nursing home or assisted living or child development facility.”
My apologies Lori, I did lump you in there with James, thanks for callin me out!
RE: OLIVE GARDEN ---- all pure speculation. Olive Garden was holding up coming to Decatur due to Sunday sales. At that point we were "on the schedule"! The schedule got expedited with "sales tax forgiveness". So, if you don't do the same, they probably won't come for 5 - 10 years....or anyone else that calculates the same way! Isn't that the "Darden Group" of restuarants?
Deflection by James---The discussion of restaurants, taxes, schools, morality, sin, WWJD, more cops, crime, strip clubs, and "porno" places were all talking points...and as such, were ancillary to the primary issue.
This is an issue of American civil liberty. This issue of wet/dry communities is a knee jerk concession of the 21st Constitutional Amendment permitting local regulation. It is most certainly a compromised position in the spirit of "do not compromise my liberties insofar as they do not compromise the liberties of others". The founding fathers would never have stood for such nonsense...we do them disservice with antics of this nature, no matter which "talking point" one chooses to invoke.
To Lori Regarding one of your earlier posts: Correct me if I'm wrong, but I would think that a business looking to put a restaurant in Priceville would consider the traffic coming through the area, ie: I-65, more so than the town's population. I feel if Priceville would have gone wet 2 years ago, the Olive Garden would be in a close proximity to the interstate exits instead of being in Decatur. And as for the timeframe; of course it will take years for mainstream restaurants to start businesses in Priceville. Corporations don't make business decisions on a whim. I'm sure they would also want to see what ordinances the council passes before any decision of that magnitude is made.
As for a Sonic... Someone could buy into the franchise and put one in Priceville right now. I know this because I looked into it a while back. Actually, my first choice was Chick-fil-a, but there are way too many requirements to be met before someone can own one of those. I guess I'll wait to see what the council decides, then open my beer store in Brooksville. Sorry guys...I couldn't resist!
Lori from Decatur
Tom,
Maybe Mr. Henderson meant 'Porno Palace' instead of porno place. 'Somebody told me' that the Porno Palace is an establishment in Oakland, California. Maybe they're looking to franchise out and thought they'd fit in well with a corrupt council and your monster truck rallies.
But seriously, in the long run, Priceville has more going for it than Decatur. Decatur's fiasco of a council-city manager government (I won't include the mayor since a definite improvement was made) is a negative in respect to being progressive. So many people blame alcohol for Decatur's woes. I think it's rather an issue of petty and selfish people in their government.
Lori from Decatur
Publix was already interested in Priceville, but because we were dry, moved on. Maybe now Priceville will have a chance with some larger retail establishments. No, it won't happen overnight, but Priceville is growing and it is only a matter of time before retail grows also.
Lori,
Spirits are running high in Priceville today (no pun intended). I am excited to see how we move forward.
priceville will never get those kind of places until mayor dumbass is out of office.all he wants is a bedroom community town.there have been opportunities to get a few things, but the king said no.....
That is an excellent point, Robert. My one track mind was only focusing on the restaurants. Publix would be a wonderful addition to Priceville. I wouldn't think that Decatur having a Publix would negate them putting one in Priceville. The Madison area has three.
Lori from Decatur
Jack,
Perhaps you could give us some examples of Priceville's opportunities to get things that the king denied...
Lori from Decatur
Tom, you're attacking the wrong James, but I like what the other James said.........You and a couple of others who are out to make money at any cost have over sold the story of businesses fighting each other to get into Priceville....Hate to tell you but you're going to be disappointed. If it was going to happen it would have already happened on the other side of the interstate. When the People see what they get with your hype, DUI manslaughter, fights, shootings rapes and all, it should not be too hard to overturn this referendum in 22 months.......Meanwhile if I were going to invest in a alcohol business I would consider what it might cost me to have to close it after the next election, not to mention the fights over zoning and licensing yet to come...
James didn't know there was a fight over zoning and licensing.....the zoning is already there, the Mayor and Council right the ordinances. Not much room to fight there....Personally I'd like to see a Sam's Club in Priceville!
The mayor has said he doesn't like the current zoning and wants to change it........Changing it to no alcohol sales within a quarter mile of any school, church or public park property will be a good thing also...Something the alcohol-at-any-cost profiteers will fight while we are laying the ground work for our next dry-wet referendum in 22 months....
