Oh! A Geico lawyer! It only takes 15-20 minutes a day in court? And a liberal spender. The type that has out nation in economic trouble today... We don't need this guy in city hall!
Cole makes more sense than anyone else. I really like the idea of if you have to build it anyway, build it when materials are more affordable. I'm sold. Besides, he can't be worse than the other 3.
and people said the same thing about Obama! yes IT CAN get worse!
Decatur needs visionary leadership, not the same old stale powertripping personalities that let the city stagnate. Carl Cole can make this city a place people want to visit and live in instead of Huntsville's ugly, stupid sibling that no one wants anything to do with.
People are going to attack this young man because he threatens the status quo. It ain't so radical to give us what we voted for. He's going to cut wasteful spending at city hall and let us spend money on things that will let us grow the economy. Cole gives us the best chance to compete with other places around north Alabama.
Cole's my guy! Kyle's had his chance and Decatur didn't give him a second time at bat, Stanford is no go and Gail Busby is not the answer either. Let the new guy have a chance.
I agree with Q,VOTE COLE !!!!!!
WILLIAM nails it: "A Geico lawyer! It only takes 15-20 minutes a day in court?" Apparently that will leave half time to be a GEICO mayor. On background a little refresher: In 2008 The Decatur Daily and Councilman Jackson mobilized against Don Kyle. Poof, Stanford wins by a little over 300 votes. Enter Stanford and infighting resulting in the Council hiring Terry to cover the shortcomings. Then comes The Decatur Daily fanning the flames for a referendum. Poof again, and we are to get a city council hired "City Manager" not directly accountable to voters. Now The Decatur Daily, The Chamber of Commerce and one candidate in particular have elevated Mr. Terry to an "anointed" status with a predetermined appointment to the City Manager job. Conclusion: What we have is the two main infighters continuing their feud; an unseasoned, relatively inexperienced, historically Democrat, progressive lawyer extending the "Hope and Change" mantra to us; and last, Don Kyle, the one deeply experienced adult in the race who will once again propel us forward. Whoever we elect will have to deal with conversion to Council/Manager government within the law. We need a mayor who will devote full time and attention to Decatur. Vote for the reasoned maturity and experience of Don Kyle and let's get going again.
This race is going to be a run-ff between Carl and Kyle.
The attacks on Cole on this page are as silly as the people running against him. How many times must we read the same drivel, Kenneth? Kyle didn't have any experience until he was Mayor. And he wasn't very good. He couldn't even get the budgets out on time. Wally Terry does. Why would anyone want to replace what Wally does with Don Kyle's version of it? I'm a city employee. I know how bad it was under Kyle. He was part time even though he wasn't supposed to be. Cole gets what is working right now and doesn't have to be there star taking credit for what everyone else did like Kyle does. This isn't even a close call. Cole all the way.
Cole doesn't seem to realize that the mayor "is" the city manager, it is his responsibility to "run" the city administratively as its primary focus...not "sell" the city. What experience does Cole have to "sell" the city....none!! He is an attorney by profession not a municipal marketing professional. It is the Chamber of Commerce, the Economic Development Board, and other like groups in the city/county to "sell" the city, not the mayor's primary focus. So, what is Cole planning on doing since he is pushing for a "part time mayor"? Run his law office out of City Hall???? Now that's a thought!!!!!! We have a city manager, Don Stanford, such as he is....the city elected him by majority vote! Now we have an opportunity to change that. With a "city manager", as everyone has been hyping, it will not be so easy, if you get one in there that is hired by the council, and not the vote of the people, which is what we have now. At least we have the chance to change it, with a "city manager", the people will have a less direct way to affect change.
Decatur, do you not believe the will of the people should be honored? Why do you know better than the majority of voters? More silly and irrational attacks on Cole from the folks that want to keep Decatur down. I guarantee you people from Priceville and Madison and Huntsville want anybody but Cole to lead Decatur. That's why Kyle got so much money from that shady PAC. It is probably Huntsville chamber money. They know Cole will make Decatur a player in the game.
Don't forget you city councilmen. They are the rule makers. Choose wisely and carefully.
in watching the video, it's amazing how the Daily, or Tiffany Owens edited or left out part of the comment they put in print., missed words, or changed them. Nothing major, but just gives you a distrust of Daily reporters.
Little William is flailing around hurling random barbs, hoping for anything to hit. City employee he says? Look at what William was doing [on the job?] this morning at 7:59; 8:11; 9:36 and 10:30. Who in city government is supervising him? Since William brought up Kyle’s qualifications, I checked. Don Kyle: BS in business administration - University of Alabama; Certificate of Accountancy - University of Alabama, Huntsville; 18 years in bank trust departments, 12 years as department head and bank Vice President; 14 years - owner of Wheeler Lake Marine retail and service business in Decatur; and, 4 years - Mayor of Decatur. Each qualification is diverse and applicable experience relative to executive management. Then there is his thoughtful, calm, collected, deliberative personal style. Little William’s man, Cole: Is a smooth engaging talker, otherwise he has Law School, two unsuccessful Democrat runs at the U. S. House of Representatives 4th District seat, and some law practice. We need a city executive, not a city litigator. Oh yes, on the budget, Don Kyle did take the time in 2004 to develop, recommend and get passed an in-balance budget, the first for the city in years. He, with the City Council, kept balanced budgets for his entire term. And, to their credit, his succeeding Mayor and Council have done likewise. This is why it can be said today: “Decatur is in good financial condition”. Don Kyle set the standard and led the way then; and, he will again.
You forgot to mention why Kyle stopped working for banks or why he had to stop and why his boat business didn't last. The people that have been around for a while know all about Don Kyle. That's why he is our 3rd choice for Mayor. What has this business genius been doing the last 4 years?
the reason it took such a long time to develop the 2004 budget was that Woller and Fowler the spending levels out of whack and departments were not being controlled by the Finance Director (Busby).
