There can never be a good school system, without control and discipline in the classroom..........

For a student to do well in school, the student, teacher, and parent need to do their job. If the parent is not doing that, someone has to step in and help.

Agree to both of previous statements. Has to be some backbone at the top and more parents HAVE to be involved. Both of these are lacking in DCS (along with many other places). Building a new school and combining the two??? Putting lipstick on a pig.

I just do not understand the push for one high school. How is that going to solve the problems that are being mentioned? From my experience bigger school means more children falling through the cracks.

@ Jon----Don't misunderstand he meaning of statements. Consultant pointed out that DCS lost 400 students last 10 years and indications are to lose a lot more the next ten years. A recent discussion with athletic personnel indicated that maintaining two schools at "6A" level may not be possible, in fact it may be difficult to maintain Austin @ 5A while maintining Decatur @ 4A. There may not be bigger schools or classromms. When Austin and Decatur were built, they were more advanced and better equipped than many schools, especially smaller county schools.....that is not true today. To provide better workforce training, major revamping of schools may be necessary. Especially since we are losing a majority of the students from 9th grade up.
