Roberts throws in 40 points for West Morgan

TRINITY — Brandon Roberts poured in 40 points and handed out six assists Saturday to lead West Morgan to the 71-56 victory over Falkville.

The Rebels outscored Falkville 18-9 in the third quarter to run off to the win.

Cannon Smith had 18 points for the Blue Devils, Travis Cole had 15 and Aaron Estes added 10.

Athens 64, Hartselle 35: Nathaniel Potts hit for 25 points to lead the Eagles to their fourth win in a row.

Athens (4-3) jumped out to an 18-point lead at the intermission and cruised to the win.

Timbo Slaton led Hartselle (2-3) with 12 points.

East Limestone 58, Cullman 50: Visiting East Limestone trailed Friday for much of the game before pulling out the win over Cullman, ranked eighth in Class 5A.

Blake Tucker led East Limestone with 16 points, Jordan Gandy and Tristan Matthews had 13 each, and Nick Washington added 11.

Lawson Schafer had a game-high 20 points for the Bearcats.

Girls

Hartselle 45, Athens 44: Quanesha Burks’ two free throws gave Hartselle the lead in the final seconds and then the home-standing Tigers held on to claim the win.

Shaneal Johnson had 10 points to lead the Tigers, and Allie Roden added eight.

Destiny Daily led the Eagles with 15 points. Tarina Adams contributed 13.

Falkville 49, West Morgan 36: The visiting Falkville girls held West Morgan to five second-quarter points on the way to the victory.

Patricia Kilgore paced the 8-1 Blue Devils with 16 points.

Autumn Eddy tallied 11 for the winners.

Sydney Sanders led West Morgan with 13 points in the loss.
