Shelton’s late trey carries Danville

DANVILLE — Sydni Shelton scored 12 points, including a go-ahead 3-pointer with 20 seconds to play, as Danville remained unbeaten with a 43-41 win over Decatur Heritage.

With her team trailing late in the fourth quarter, Shelton scored seven consecutive points, giving the Hawks the lead for good with a deep three that came off of a designed inbounds play.

Tabetha Hutto had a game-high 13 points for Danville, which will continue play on Monday at Meek.

Savannah Naylor had 12 points for Decatur Heritage (3-1), while Maddie Vinton added 11 points and five rebounds.

Hatton 42, West Morgan 39: Addie Carter scored a game-high 12 points in the season-opening win for Hatton.

Mariah Cantrell and Boston Claborne each had nine points for the Hornets, while Sydney Terry added seven.

Krystyn Chambers had a team-high 11 points in the loss for West Morgan (1-1).

Lawrence County 73, Priceville 57: Rachel Childress recorded a double-double, scoring 25 points and grabbing 11 rebounds, in the season opener for Lawrence County.

Adrien Coffey had 15 points and eight rebounds for the Red Devils, while Tori McDaniel added 12 points and nine steals.

Jada Beverly had a game-high 27 points in the loss for Priceville, while Peyton Parker added 12 points.

Lawrence County continues play Monday at West Point.

Boys

Danville 39, Decatur Heritage 32: Patrick Doherty had a game-high 14 points in the win for Danville.

Justin Morgan added 13 points for the Hawks, who battled back from a tied game at the half to outscore Decatur Heritage 24-17 in the second half.

Tyde Coffey led all Decatur Heritage scorers with nine points.

West Morgan 75, Hatton 59: Brandon Roberts had a game-high 36 points as West Morgan blew open a close game in the second half en route to the win.

Peyton Mullican had 10 points for the Rebels (2-0), who led 40-34 at halftime.

Leron Cooper had 20 points in the loss for Hatton (0-1).
