Socialistic ideas not accepted

To The Daily: Government not only has its greedy hands in our medical care facilities and insurance companies, but to add insult to injury, its hands are in nearly every aspect of our daily lives. How unfortunate! This certainly is not the way our founding fathers envisioned America. To quote Thomas Jefferson, "I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them." This is a powerful statement, and even though it was written more than 200 years ago, it is still remarkably pertinent today.

As long as there are decent people with values, a good work ethic and integrity, socialistic ideas will never be accepted. With regard to those individuals who feel the government should take care of their every need, please move out of the U.S. There are places that will gladly welcome your ideas, like Germany, France, Italy, etc. Furthermore, words like "socialism," "liberal" or "progressive" are just other terms for communism. How sad it is to realize there are those who cannot seem to manage on their own without assistance from the federal government. And I am not talking about legitimately needy people, like those who have actually worked the majority of their lives, paid into the Social Security system, who are elderly or sick, and can afford either prescriptions or food. I'm talking about a class of individuals who are too lazy to work, families that have lived for decades on welfare and food stamps with an attitude of, "If it was good enough for grandpa, it's good enough for me." Simply put, those who want something for nothing, and we all know nothing is free. They want to sit back, fat, dumb and happy, while the government baby sits them.

People the government is taking care of shouldn't have a vote in this election. Furthermore, they don't deserve to vote or to even express an opinion. Ronald Reagan said the scariest words that could be uttered are, "I'm from the government and I'm here to help you."

Amen to that Suzanne !! The silent majority will speak on Tuesday,November 6th .

I feel if one doesn't pay taxes, then one doesn't get to vote. Simply put.

Again AMEN Suzanne. I just wish we could find the type of people with these ethics , to turn our government around who are willing to run for office. So much of our leadership is driven by the powerful and the MEDIA (pun intended) , rather than the real concern and welfare of the people . Not the implied concern as some would have you believe.

Rebecca you mean there are people that when they purchase gas they are not charged tax on the gas? Or when they buy grocerys they are not charged tax on the food like I am? I never realized that the cashier was able to choose who was going to pay taxes when they purchase something. I think everyone pays taxes hun. Please educate yourself with something besides FOX News and you would know that. These comments really show how out of touch some of you are.

So democracy applies only to those that you feel are worthy? AND You want people to move out of the US if they don't agree with your political position. And progressive is another name for communism (so do you still want child labor, unsafe working conditions, 80 hour work weeks?) Sounds like you need a US history and civics lesson and read the Constitution of the US.

Well, Richard, let me address your issues. Maybe you should revisit your history and civil books. In case you were sleeping during history class, we are a “Republic”; not a “Democracy”. To educate you on the differences:

A republic and a democracy are similar with the following exception. In a republic the sovereignty is in each individual person. In a democracy the sovereignty is in the group.

Republic: That form of government in which the powers of sovereignty are vested in the people and are exercised by the people, either directly, or through representatives chosen by the people, to whom those powers are specially delegated. [NOTE: The word "people" may be either plural or singular. In a republic the group only has advisory powers; the sovereign individual is free to reject the majority group-think. USA/exception: if 100% of a jury convicts, then the individual loses sovereignty and is subject to group-think as in a democracy.]

Democracy: That form of government in which the sovereign power resides in and is exercised by the whole body of free citizens directly or indirectly through a system of representation, as distinguished from a monarchy, aristocracy, or oligarchy. [NOTE: In a pure democracy, 51% beats 49%. In other words, the minority has no rights. The minority only has those privileges granted by the dictatorship of the majority.]

This nation was founded, using colonial ideas; not communism. At present, we have a leader who has been mentored by people, such as Frank Marshall Davis with a communist background (from 8 years of age to 18 years). He actually was a card-carrying member of the communist party. And, on and on with professors who taught Marxism at the college level, et. al. Next, I want people to move out of the U.S. (be sure to re-read my opinion again—you only interjected your biased opinion here) if they have expectations of the government taking care of all their needs (hope you got it this time). Sounds like you may be one of those people. Could I buy you a one-way ticket to Europe(if you promise to stay)?

I agree with the majority of things Suzanne had to say. It is not fair to be in the working class to pay high taxes for the families that there are out there that have learned how to beat the system and live off of "welfare" and also get tax credit for having children. I personally know people that have been on government assistance since birth, are adults now and fully capable of working but learned how to beat the system because they were taught well. I have seen many get back ALL that they paid in and a few get even more. Is this fair? No it isn't. Now when I say welfare I mean, government programs, church and city food pantries and "mooch" off of others with no intention of EVER paying it back to name a few.. To clarify, I am NOT talking about working mothers with children whose fathers do not pay child support in any way or help at all. I am NOT talking about families who the main bread winner has lost their job and have diligently searched for another but cannot find anything. Some will use others as long as the others allow it and then when all is done they move on to others friends with means. Our country is in a sad state and it needs fixed. It will take years and years to fix but it can be done. Lastly, I am so sick of the majority of Democrats and liberals defining everyone who disagrees with them and the current administration as being brain washed by Fox. I, for one, read all news articles that interest me and politics is a major part of what I read. I read both sides and make a decision from there and from what I know. We are being treated like zombies with no brain whatsoever who wholly rely on Fox news to "tell us what to do and how to vote." Come on people! I have heard not one Republican saying that the Democrats are only watching NBC aka MSNBC. Let's get real and honest instead of throwing accusations back and forth. Can we not discuss things as civilized human beings or do we have to act like children and blame everyone but ourselves or who we stand for. Be honest and true to yourself when you vote but please get ALL of the facts that you can before hand. Research please! Not much time left but there is a lot to read out there on the Net. God bless us all no matter race, political affiliation or other differences that we have.

There's so much I want to say in argument of this typical southern conservative mentality, but what's the point? It won't change the self-righteousness, or suddenly enlighten the writer who has the arrogance to proclaim, "With regard to those individuals who feel the government should take care of their every need, please move out of the U.S."

Perhaps you would prefer we go back to the good days of olde - when no one had insurance and doctors would often trade and barter services or let people pay what they could afford, when medicine was practiced with compassion, when there was no need for government intervention to help the needy because neighbors helped neighbors, when the slaves sang happily in the cotton fields all day long...oh wait.

I've got a better idea-why don't YOU move out of the US, please. To a place where businesses have less government regulation and can do as they please and the poor have to help themselves, like India or China. I'll buy YOU a one way ticket.

Thanks AngieK, your comments just made everyone stupid.
