HARTSELLE — Hartselle High School students will be dismissed at noon Thursday and 11 a.m. Friday to assist in the move to the new 50-acre campus on Bethel Road.
Opening of the new school is contingent on a final state inspection of the facility Tuesday. If the building passes inspection, classes will reconvene at the new building after spring break on April 1, according to an announcement posted on http://hartselle.hcs.schoolinsites.com.
Students must report to the main gym at the new campus by 8:15 a.m. April 1, where they will receive a copy of their schedule with new classroom locations, locker and instructions on parking and entering and leaving the campus.
Students will be free to explore the new school before first period begins at 9:30 a.m., with classes ending at 3:20 p.m. Regular school hours will begin at 7:20 a.m. April 2.
School officials are in the process of planning an open house at the new campus. A date for the event has not been announced.

Why have the disruption and loss of class time this year? Why not just open it for the next school year?
Because School Board member,Jennifer Sittason, wants her child to "graduate" from the new school. She is the mastermind for this fiasco of a move during the school year. There are a lot of people who would love to see her get interested in something else and go away-SOON!
This is a stupid decision. How much learning is going to take place with the kids trying to explore the new school? My kids graduated in 2011 and 2012 they will not ever set foot in that school so why is it sooo important for the class of 2013 to be in that fortress for graduation? I will be helping pay for this school for a long time to come!!!!! I am going to try to do most of my shopping in Decatur. They won't get much more from me than property taxes!!!!!!
Someone is lacking common sense !! The School should open at the beginning of the school year not now...
If you know anything about the education system, you would know that if it makes sense, don't do it.
sad to see all these narrow minded comments, not the norm for Hartselle folks
Bethel Road is narrow, too, Eloise. It will not be any wider until next fall, if we're lucky. It's not about being narrow minded, it's about common sense.
So teachers are going to spend spring break hurriedly throwing together their classrooms? What a terrible disruption to the lives of the parents, students, and teachers. Why would they want to take the risk of failing to have safety guidelines in place, and plans for dealing with emergencies and traffic flow by rushing this up?
Stupidest thing I've ever heard!!!!
its hartselle enough said!!!
Now I see why the superintendent is retiring after stupid moves like this! I believe the board is just as dumb, shame on you Dr. Joy for agreeing with this bone head move, and it doesn't surprise me about sittason at all. The Sittason!s time to get out of Hartselle politics is now due!
@Jimmy J: No one from Decatur has any room to talk about dumb moves from public officials. Go ahead and get your stir stick out of the pot.
Im from Hartselle JAY!!! I went to Hartselle High JAY I graduated from Hartselle JAY anything else Jay !!!!
s
Well change your from location Jimmy J. It's misleading. I would never have posted that comment had I known you were bashing your own alma mater and mine.
Oh boy, open mouth - insert foot. Just realized I'm the pot calling the kettle black. I apologize there Jerry.
