HUNTSVILLE — Three players reached double figures as Class 5A, No. 1 Brewer geared up for next week’s Huntsville Times Classic with a 61-48 win over Columbia in Area 13 play.
Led by Rheagan Harvel’s 18 points, Brewer controlled the game from the beginning, opening an early lead before putting the game out of reach in the second half.
“It was a close game but we were able to stay in control,” Brewer coach Ricky Allen said. “We were able to lead by five or six early on and build on that as the game progressed. We took care of business tonight. It was a good game for our girls.”
Riley Northway added a double-double for the Patriots (12-0, 3-0), scoring 15 points and grabbing 17 rebounds. Cheyenne McLemore had 11 points.
Jasmyn Bates led all Columbia scorers with 20 points.
Lawrence County 72, R.A. Hubbard 52: Adrian Coffey recorded a double-double, scoring a game-high 23 points and grabbing 11 rebounds, as Lawrence County improved to 10-2 with the win.
Whitney Woodard had 17 points for the Red Devils, while Rachel Childress added 16.
Alex Gholston had 21 points in the loss for R.A. Hubbard, while Oresha Sherrod added 11.
West Morgan 49, Westminster Christian 40: Krystyn Chambers had a team-high 10 points as West Morgan remained unbeaten in area play with the win.
Sydney Sanders added nine points for the Rebels (5-8, 2-0), who led 20-15 at the half.
Jessica Gonder and Hannah Sharp each had 11 points in the loss for Westminster Christian.
Decatur Heritage 40, Vinemont 28: Maddie Vinton had 17 points in the win for Decatur Heritage (9-4). Savanna Naylor added 15 points.
Sydney Wallace had 12 points in the loss for Vinemont, while McKenzie Newman added 11.
Decatur Heritage will continue area play today against St. Bernard.
Lexington 51, Hatton 40: Boston Claborn and Sydney Terry combined to score 25 points, but it wasn’t enough as Hatton dropped its area opener to Lexington.
Claborn had 13 points for the Hornets (5-7, 0-1), while Terry added 12.
Haven Albright had a game-high 16 points for Lexington.
Hartselle 47, East Limestone 46: Allie Roden had a game-high 16 points as Hartselle improved to 2-1 in area play with the win.
Quanesha Burks added 10 points for the Tigers (7-3), who led 25-24 at the half.
Brennan Crabtree and Paige Pettigrew each had 13 points in the loss for East Limestone, while Rachel Diamond added 10.
Priceville 47, Haleyville 38: Jada Beverly had 19 points in the win for Priceville (4-7, 2-0).
Tori Pendley had 11 points in the loss for Haleyville, while Tia White added nine points.
Tanner 62, Sheffield 15: Sydney Houston had a game-high 18 points in the win for Tanner.
Kelsey Houston added 13 points for the Rattlers (1-2), while Samara French added 10.
Austin 59, Hazel Green 51: Takisha Jordan and Tyra Johnson each had 14 points in the win for Austin. Katie Speegle added 10 points for the Black Bears (7-3), who trailed 31-30 at the half.
Tyra Caudle had a game-high 16 points in the loss for Hazel Green, while Taylor Edwards added 10.
Falkville 46, Danville 42 (OT): Sydney Moore had 21 points, five rebounds and five assists in the overtime win for Falkville.
Moore finished the game 7 of 10 from the free-throw line, and also hit 4-of-9 3-point attempts. Emily Mickelson added 11 points.
Hartselle 56, East Limestone 51: Preston Wallace scored 19 points and Timbo Slaton added 12 as Hartselle improved to 2-2 in area play with a win over East Limestone.
Preston Adams added 10 points for Hartselle.
Jordon Gandy had a game-high 21 points in the loss for East Limestone.
Tanner 60, Sheffield 49: Justin Smith scored 16 points and Jace Haggermaker had a double-double as Tanner remained unbeated with a win over Sheffield.
Haggermaker finished with 14 points and 12 rebounds for the Rattlers (3-0, 1-0), who also got 14 points from Greg Maclin.
Shaq Carrol had 16 points for Sheffield, while Hunter Danley added 12. Jo Smith (11) and Simon Ridgeway (10) also reached double figures for the Bulldogs.
West Morgan 89, Westminster Christian 65: Brandon Roberts led four players in double figures with 29 points as West Morgan cruised to an area win.
Dustin Morgan had 14 points and 17 rebounds for the Rebels (11-2, 2-0), while Grant Workman added 12. Peyton Mullican had 10.
Jacob Parker had 14 points in the loss for Westminster Christian.
Decatur Heritage 67, Vinemont 50: Tyde Coffey had 19 points and 11 rebounds in the win for Decatur Heritage.
Lee Godwin had 17 points for the Eagles, while Jacob Crews added 12.
Lance Stanley had 17 points in the loss for Vinemont.
R.A. Hubbard 56, Lawrence County 50: John Owens had a game-high 21 points for R.A. Hubbard.
Deonta Carter had 12 points for the Chiefs and Austin Beasley added 10.
Donovan Wheeler led all Lawrence County players with 14 points. Jesse Childers had 11 points for the Red Devils, while Carson Jones added 10 points.
Priceville 57, Haleyville 40: Marc McLendon had 22 points in the win for Priceville.
Luke Mason added 20 points for the Bulldogs (7-4), who led 28-15 at the half.
Jacob Brimer, Hunter Hood and Trey Williams each had seven points in the loss for Haleyville.
