Construction on the Wal-Mart Neighborhood Market in continuing on Sixth Avenue SE in Decatur. Stephen Sweet and Randy Braswell work on communication wiring in what will be the parking area outside the new store.

One new store started taking job applications Thursday, and another has set its grand opening date.

Officials with the new Wal-Mart Neighborhood Market in Decatur are accepting applications for up to 95 part- and full-time positions for its store on 1203 Sixth Ave. S.E.

Applications are being taken at Wal-Mart’s temporary hiring center at the Decatur-Morgan County Entrepreneurial Center, 1629 Fourth Ave. S.E.

Officials also are accepting applications for about 80 positions at the new Wal-Mart Neighborhood Market in Florence — at its temporary location on 210-B Seville St.

Amy Burger, project manager for Mitchell Communications Group, said most sales associates will begin working in March and April to prepare for grand openings at both stores later this spring.

Both hiring centers will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Meanwhile, Kohl’s department store will open March 6 in the new Market Shoppes Development, 2407 Sixth Ave. S.E., Decatur.

The company is hiring 105 part- and full-time employees, Kohl’s spokeswoman Sydney Hofer said. Kohl’s will join stores Mattress Firm, Ulta Salon, Cosmetics & Fragrance and Replays in the retail development.
