Letter to the editor
What about the 72 percent?

To The Daily: Now that The Daily has that warm and fuzzy feeling from the election, consider this: Voters in Morgan County went to the polls and supported mostly Republican candidates. Those voters cast 72 percent of their votes for Mitt Romney. The Daily went on record for the re-election of Obama. How can this be? Apparently, we the 72 percent, are wrong in our thinking because we allow The Daily to keep telling us that. I would think part of that 72 percent would like to read something different from the only daily newspaper in Morgan County.

President Barack Obama used the “revenge” word against Romney, so let’s get revenge against The Daily. If part of the 72 percent would practice this one thing, The Daily would pay a high price. Businesses pay The Daily many thousands of dollars every week purchasing ads for their business. Stop trading with those companies that advertise with The Daily, and tell the owners why you are doing this.

As a businessman in Hartselle, I have not advertised in The Daily for more than 40 years and still have a business. In every paper, the saying “celebrating 100 years as the independent voice of the Tennessee Valley” is on the front page. The Daily needs to change that slogan to read “celebrating 100 years as the liberal voice of the Tennessee Valley.” Maybe it’s The Daily that needs to change its views, not the 72 percent who spoke with their votes.

If those who support the Daily's positions were the only subscribers, the paper would either cease operations or alter its outlook. The time for a boycott has most certainly come. Who will join with others in cancelling subscriptions?

Opinions are like the anatomy of the human body: we all have them and we have the right to have them.

When we want to destroy someone or thing because they or it has different opinions we're encroaching on their rights. They have the right to express their opinions and we have the right to listen or not, to read it or not.I do appreciate the fact that we have a newspaper which will publish opinions which differ with the ones of the paper and I respect the opinions of my fellow citizens. I encourage everybody to continue to express them.

Good expression, Fred. I agree with everything you wrote.

Will do tomorrow Fred, thanks.

Thank you Joe from Falkville.

Well put, joe.

Yes!! About the only good this paper provides (now that outdoor privies are virtually gone) is to line bird cages and dunnage for packing. (And, if the Daily thinks I buy their paper or an online subscription, they're not right about that either!!)

I use AAA in Decatur. Their office is next to Publix. Great folks to work with and AAA is good stuff. I promise not to use your travel office. I will keep my Daily paper who even let your opinion to boycott them to be in this awesome paper.....

Bubba just expressing

it's high time we showed the true meaning of democracy by silencing opposing viewpoints and taking calm statements of belief as acts of ideological war! Down with dialogue! long live reactionism! viva le armchair revolution!

oh and punishing local businesses who use the daily to advertise as some sort of ill-guided attempt to influence national politics does nothing but damage our local economy.

why not use some of that innovative free-market spirit of yours to start a right-wing newspaper of your own? or would that require more action and organizing than you're willing to put into this plan to boycott any opinion other than your own?

I admire the Editorial staff of the Daily for having the courage not to hide their ability to think rationally and express their views candidly. Keep up the good work!

I live in New Jersey but love Alabama but I am sick of reading New Jersey style liberalism in This Alabama paper. If someone started a conservative paper. I would end my subscription with the Daily ASAP and subscribe to the conservative paper.

dont know what your business is,but i hope i havnt gave you any money.you sir.....are a idiot.

Rest easy Jack,he probably doesn't take EBT cards.
