It's Cole or a step backward. Time for new blood.
Vote experience. Vote Busbey!
"Myra Williams MUG" ?
Stanford will get more votes per dollar spent. Don't let big spender Kyle buy the mayors office with that Montgomery Democrat PAC money.
Wow Chris - you are observant. I believe Ms. Williams is due an apology.
I thought we have a council mayor system. That means the council has more impact on our city than does the mayor, right? To the best of my memory all of the articles regarding Tuesday's election have been about the mayor. We needed to hear more about our the council candidates, or maybe I missed that Q&A article.
Limestone, you are correct. Nothing on our council cadidates except when they filed to run. Not many questions asked. I think the incumbants have had there chance and now they must go! Mrs. BJ Wascom and Mrs. Akins will do a good job if elected and I think Mr. Maxwell would be great for district 3. He's not as arrogant as the incumbant in 3. Of course, that's just my opinion.
The Daily "dropped the ball" in reporting on the Council Candidates. Most people have no clue who is challenging the incumbents. I'm sure the Incumbents will win purely on name recognition.
As I susoected . . ."Montgomery Democrat PAC money" . . . I knew there would be a mention of it. Stanford had to hire Wally Terry to come in and do his job for him because he was WAAAY over his head. So basically Stanford is collecting a $100,000+ yearly salary for doing nothing. In plain terms . . he has taken $200,000+ from Decatur for doing nothing. I believe that is a far worse that contributions to Kyle . . . don't you William?
Here's my .2 cents, and since I live in District 2
Cole = Mayor, he intends to give us what we voted for
BJ Wascom = City Council, If you read her brochure she has 35 years federal service, X-military in the WAC's. She wants to clean up 6th avenues eye sores. She wants buisinesses to succeed, and wants to bring in other than heavy industry to Dectaur. We need white collar jobs as nmuch as we need blue collar jobs.
Stanford did more for Decatur than Kyle. If Stanford stole two hundred thousand for doing nothing what is kyle going to do. Stanford only had a city manager type for two years. Kyle will have one for 4. Kyle wants to steal twice as much by your logic.
"Stanford did more for Decatur than Kyle" - Need some specifics. Wally Terry is doing Stanford's job for him so how can Stanford accomplish anything but take up space at City Hall?
I also know you are obssessed with some PAC money hat Kyle may or may not have taken but unless it is illegal and you have solid proof to back it up . . . you are just blowing smoke.
It has been reported every week in the paper. Pay attention.
I do pay atention. Have not seen/read/heard aything that constitues ANY contributions as Illegal.
Vote for NEW LEADERS!!!!! Get rid of the OLD MEAT!!!!!!
@ THE . . .right on!! Actually the entire Council and Mayor should be jailed for voter election fraud or something similar. We voted for A and they went and did B. Still confused as to how this is not illegal. Regardless of election outcome tomorrow, evryone should contest it because we voted to go to 3 districs instead of 5.
Tony....can you say, "Justice Department". Learn your facts. Too much misinformation being spoon fed.
Well as they say in the fishing industry "it's time to fish or cut bait"
It's Decaturs time to make a change, actually now or never.
What do YOU want Decatur to look like in the next 4 years.
Go to bjwascom.com and read the vision page.
Go to coleformator.com
Tomorrow is Decaturs chance to shine and show progression not regression.
Don Kyle is the by far the best choice. Candidate Cole has duped the Chamber of Commerce into believing he is a pro-business Democrat, he is not. The leadership of the Chamber has not diligently assessed the situation. Cole has been and is a long term extreme left Obama supporter. He has repeatedly argued in public and private settings for the progressive agenda which is, by its very nature, anti-business. Also, reasonable thinking people will agree that it is a healthy and good thing for locally represented companies to give donations to pro-business advocates like Kyle, whether through a PAC, or directly. We cannot afford the mistake of putting an otherwise inexperienced, progressive lawyer in office on the shallow and legally unresolved promise of being a part time mayor.
CHARLES . . .can you say "City Coucil". The DOJ never said no. 2nd paragraph from an earlier article on August 12 of this year: "The Justice Department did not object, and no court has blocked the referendum, but the ballot will not comply with the April 2010 referendum vote that would have required appointment of a city manager and dropped Decatur’s five voting districts to three."
The City Council and our lovely City Attorney decided on their own to read the mind of the DOJ and just dropped the whole thing. Seems like I am not the one who needs to LEARN THEIR FACTS.
Spoon feed on the article:

Tony....do you trust everything the local paper gives you about their, or Cole's "Hopey Changy" agenda? The fact is that the 3 districts would not have been approved and Decatur was/is under a mandate from the DOJ to get new districts drawn under "one-man-one-vote" based on the 1965 voting rights act. They will not report this because they & the Chamber want you to support their "INSIDER" leftist candidate. THE COUNCIL CHOSE NO SUCH THING. Attend a meeting some time & get a clue. Bye-the-way....I don't say "coucil"
Hurts to be wrong doesn't it?
Kenneth. Cole has donations from the executive director of the republican party. Kyle has donations from jere Beasley and a democrat PAC. Kyle is a liberal Democrat and always has been. He was at the Democraf party kickoff event Saturday where his good friend is the president. Maybe YOU'RE THE ONE THAT HAS BEEN DUPED. Cole is probably the only thing standing between us having Mayor Busby.
No business in Decatur would hire Don Kyle for 110 thousand dollars a year, yet Charles and Kenneth are trying to make everyone think they're fishing and smoking buddy Kyle is some business genius. He hasn't had anything to do with a private sector business in a decade. Kyle the businessman is a myth created by his political consultants he bought with Jere Beasley and all those other democrats money. And why should anyone listen to kyles cronies about the law? They're the ones that have illegally stuck signs on street signs, electrical boxes and on public rights of way all over town. They can't understand the sign law much less the referendum law.
Tony....hurts to be wrong??? Why...I have no idea. I haven't been there yet. I am sure it will happen someday. Share your experience with us. Tell us how it feels because you haven't been right about anything yet! Oh, I can hear those rusty wheels grinding & smoking. I predict more bizzare allegations....
Don Kyle is the by far the best choice. Candidate Cole has duped the Chamber of Commerce into believing he is a pro-business Democrat. Democrat yes, pro-business, no. The Chamber leadership has not diligently assessed the situation. Cole has been and is a long term extreme left Obama supporter. He has repeatedly argued in public and private settings for the progressive agenda which is for growth of government and by its very nature, anti-business. A donation from a former Republican Party operative does not erase longstanding liberalism.
You know what? Whomever gets elected come Oct. You guys will still not be satisfied! You will end up not liking him and the Decatur Daily will run them down. That is all they are good for!
