Anders & Standford attempting to solve the problem?? Two monkeys would have a better shot. Can't wait til they're voted OUT! :)
5 inchs of rain in less than an hour. Nothing can prevent flooding with rain like that.
If Stnford said the drains were not blocked, why hire someone to check it for blockage. I'll bet that will carry a high price.
When you go on and on without keeping infrastructure in check, then things like this are going to happen. Our current leaders are more worried about a sewer to nowhere down the Beltline then to fix our streets, traffic signals, sidewalks, and throughfares. Luckily this didn't happen on a weekday when these lots and streets would have been packed. Come on guys, we need our infrastructure repaired, not sewers to nowhere!
When you keep building, pouring concrete and laying asphalt, you're going to have more and more flooding. The water needs to be able to be absorbed into the ground.
Anders is not thinking. . Flooding on Lee Street is nothing new. all the water runs down 2nd avenue and 1st avenue and also down the streets in Old Decatur. Lee street is the "low point" and it all floods there.
.
This has been in the paper SEVERAL times in past years.
.
Also the comparison of New Orleans and Katrina and the Oplyland hotel had nothing to do with blocked drainage. these were both water overflows (from river floods). not street floods.
How about preventive maintenance instead of waiting till it happens? Periodically check for obstructions and keep the trees and shrubs from growing up in the ditches (applies to Hartselle too).
DD would be better informed if they interviewed the city engineer and not an elected official who doesn't specialize in this type work.
I'm not sure where Anders was going with all that. This was just a "ten year rain". Imagine what would happen in a "100 year rain".
they also need to check drainage at presbyterian drive sw the drainage ditch across from the presbyterian drive towers were overflowing had the parking lot of towers and the road flooded. residents could not get out due to this. fire dept checked it out after they closed off the road. eventually it went down. this is a terible feeling that u r stranded and can not get out. Our tax dollars pay for this and we expect better.
"Why Did Decatur Flood??"..lmao!!! Evidently Nancy G was out of town, somebody tell Nancy that it "RAINED!!!!" LOL, Where is your head, Nancy, evidently not on your "shoulders"!!! The DD sure has some real writers on their staff!!!! I guess the next thing she'll be asking is "Why Did Wilson Morgan Lake Rise 5' " (in the 2 hrs after the rain)?? Well duh!!!!!
