Woodard’s bat carries Red Devils at Hillcrest

Whitney Woodard homered and singled, leading Lawrence County to a 9-3 victory over Hoover in round-robin play at the Hillcrest Invitational in Tuscaloosa.

McKenzie Hill and Adrien Coffey each had RBI triples, while Victoria Draper added two singles and two stolen bases. Tori McDaniel had two singles. Ashton Malcolm allowed five hits in picking up the win.

Huntsville 5, West Morgan 2: Hannah Draper and Sydney Sanders had RBIs for the Rebels in a season-opening loss at the Hazel Green.

Briley Stephenson and Kayla Moore also had hits for the Rebels (0-2).

Sparkman 4, West Morgan 1: Stephenson had a double as West Morgan dropped the second game of the tournament.

The Rebels will continue play today against Hazel Green, Hartselle and Bob Jones.

Basketball

Cornerstone Christian 65, Cullman Christian 62: In the ACEAA Final Four, Jordan Dodd sank two free throws with seven seconds left to break a 62-all tie.

Alex Dodd was fouled on a steal, and closed the game by adding one more from the foul line to give Cornerstone (12-9) the win. Gage Crowder had a double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds, while Jordan Dodd led all scorers with 20 points. With the win, Cornerstone Christian advances to the state finals to play Conecuh Springs 1:30 p.m. today at the Oxford Civic Center.

Soccer

West Morgan girls 10, Danville 0: The Rebels (2-1) started off strong, opening a 3-0 halftime lead on the way to the shutout.

Peyton Parker had three goals and one assist, while Maribel Delgado and Amber Watson each added two goals and three assists. Briana Thorne, Missell Olivias and Hannah Tamos rounded out the scoring. West Morgan will play Columbia at 5 p.m. Monday at the Jack Allen Complex.Tennis

Decatur Heritage boys 9, West Point 2: Brent King, Josh Burgreen, Austin Markham and Adam Runager posted wins in singles for the Eagles.

Doubles wins by Runager-Markham, King-Burgreen and Sam Miller-Garrett Gladish sealed the victory.
